He should get the Lady Byng as well, the kid gets dozens of penalties on him a game and he just keeps his head down and focuses on scoring goals.

IMO he needs to start shooting the puck more. He is currently 15th in sog for forwards and is tied for 14th in goals in the league, 10 back of Ovechkin.

Can you imagine if he hadn't missed half a year?

He would have had a legitimate shot at the Art Ross if he didn't miss any games in his rookie year. He seems to get better as the year goes on and was on an 87 point pace his rookie year. I doubt he would have gotten 106 points but somewhere between 95-100 points would be realistic.

McDavid is hitting that Hart trophy sweet spot right now. Team can't be too good or too bad, need to just get into that bubble area for a playoff spot and he can claim the throne.

Such a ridiculous criteria for the Hart. Kucherov could lead the league by 20 points and not win because Tampa is to good. The Hart will go to the highest scorer of the wild card teams. That pretty much eliminates Kucherov, Mackinnon and Rantanen from winning since their teams will finish near the top of the league. The only exception is if Toronto wins their division and Matthews finishes top 3 in goals and top 10 in points, then the Hart is his.

As it stands, there isn't a single player more important to his team than McD to Edmonton. That's not being a Homer, it's a fact.

There might actually be a case for Giroux right now. Just in terms of relative to peers. Philly is embarrassing without him. He has 42 points, next closest guy is at 28. But they suck, so he should not be at all in the conversation.

Leafs won just the same without him.

Meh I don't care about him winning it if he's not actually the best player of the season. That garbage criteria gave Taylor Hall a hart trophy even though he was arguably not a top 5 player.

All while playing on a pretty terrible team (bottom 10 in the league). Best player in the world, and I don't think it's all that close either. I think he's easily 15-20% better than any other player.

McDavid had points on 121 of 225 goals scored by the Oilers in 2018 or 54%. Rantanen was 113 of 267 (42%). Kucherov was 109 of 313 (35%).
