the goal was the goal... unbelievable skill and instincts.

but honestly, the most impressive play he made in my eyes was off a dzone face off late in the game... He sniffed out Vegas's set play (something so many habs fowards have amazingly not been able to do), made the right move, and did just enough to break up the play and cause a turnover...

smart, decisive, playing within himself and using his quickness to make a big defensive play, the kind that doesn't really show up anywhere.

Kid is a complete gamer, one heck of a hockey player... going to be fun to see him fully develop.

Still can't believe he was an healthy scratch to start the playoffs.
Now he's on our main line and no one can even touch him.

He's got absolutely all the offensive tools.

An explosive 4-steps acceleration, dangerous wrist shot, a hell of a one timer and if he goes one of one with the goalie on a breakaway like last night, the hands are there to do the work. His vision, playmaking abilities and hockey IQ are through the roof....and he didn't even played 25 games yet.

An absolute keeper.....

Just amazing that 14 teams skipped him. We were really really lucky because Caufield will become an elite player. Not a single doubt in my mind.

What is quite remarkable is that Caufield has gone from a player who couldn't crack our mediocre lineup at the start of the playoffs to being our most dangerous, dynamic player. Only in Montreal. We may have well stirred and awaken those fabled Montreal Forum ghosts.

Caufield hands and scoring ability is very much Kovalchuk like. If he was 6’ he would have gone 1st overall like Kovalchuk
While I agree that if Caufield was a bigger player he would have been a candidate for first overall in his draft year, Kovalchuk was a much different skater than Caufield.

Kovalchuk had 200 foot speed while Caufield has blue-line in type speed. Caufield is a much quicker skater than Kovalchuk but lacks the top end speed Kovalchuk had when he was at the top of his game. Kovalchuk could dominant a game with his speed, power and shot (think Anderson with high-end skill) . Caufield will soon be able to dominate a game with his quickness, anticipation, vision and release.

In a few years (if it is not already happening) many teams will be lamenting the fact that they passed on this special player.

Go and look at Hughes and Caufield’s draft year’s highlight and look at who’s doing what. Some people f***ed up real bad. Furthermore, Hughes only looks like he has size because he’s playing with Caufield. Both are small by NHL standards, and the marginal difference is not worth the skill discrepancy.
