He did not elevate Makars play buddy. That's like saying Hyman elevates McDavids play. No he doesn't, Toews benefits more from playing with Makar.

I cite post 218, that you clearly didn’t read, and preferred to I wouldn’t trade 2 towed for one Hughes nonsense. It’s all subjective to make the claim, however there’s numbers that paint a better picture to backup the claim than the absolute nonsense you posted.

And yes Toews does as well with Makar than without. He is not a product of Makar. The eye test shows that and the advance stats (which were posted by another poster earlier) prove that as well.

Those stats aren't reflective of how good he is. I mean wins above replacement is a team stat not really an individual stat and he plays for the Avs who are stacked. Put Hughes on Avs and he can have higher numbers. Then you also post Norris votes which is basically subjective and not really a stat. How about posting how much points or assists he has compared to Hughes?? I know he is a good defenseman but he seems to be a product of Avs depth and talent that is making him look much better imo. Devon Toews on Canucks won't have remotely the same stats as he does for the Avs playing next to Makar.

Did he ever play at #1D level to proclaim he can be #1D on 20 other teams in the NHL? The places he played always had stacked D. Put Noah Juulsen on the Avs roster and he will look like a #1D playing with Makar or Byram or Girard. When you have Josh Manson on the last pairing, it shows how much depth Avs have on D and that helps make any defenseman playing for them look much better. Hughes does a lot of heavy lifting and plays for 30 minutes most times which I don't think Toews could as evidenced by how the Avs defensive play dropped once Makar was injured. Canucks have only Hughes to rely on while Avs have around 6 Dmannthey can rely on. Obviously Canucks added to their D in offseason and addition of Hronek seems to have paid off now. But prior to that we had Hughes playing with Luke freaking schenn or Ethan Bear. Put Toews in that situation and see how he does before proclaiming the guy as the absolute #1 D.

Again he is a good dman but he isn't a #1 D Avs claim him to be. Lots of teams would have thrown him big offers if he really was a #1 D a team can build around. Toews has usually played as a good top 4 D whether it was NYI or on Avs. He was never played like a #1D in terms of seeing how much ice time he would get or how much the team could lean on him.

Hughes is scoring goals now too and he plays in all situations. PP, PK and 5 on 5 and drive the Canucks offense. You seem too ignorant of Hughes abilities if you think he is just a glorified PP specialist lol

Also your beloved Toews plays with players like Makar, Rantanen, McKinnon etc. So you should also use the same logic for your own dman who plays on an even more skilled team with more skilled players
