back when i was play bantam there was an incident with one of the teams in our league, we were in a 12 team league, and one team had a female on the team, i don't know what started it , but she did a strip tease for the whole team till she was in the nude, she got removed from the team, the coaches were also suspended and then fired by the association.

Most women I've played with haven't been terribly attractive (sorry, just the facts)...although there was a high schooler who came out to pickup a couple years back who was cute.

Either way, never ran into an issue. We had one girl on our team who lightly took offense to us saying "guys" on the bench until she realized that it's not a slight against women and just how guys talk to one another. Only other issue is that she (and most of the women) get way too emotional when someone gets a little physical or starts bawling when she gets hurt, and that's kind of a drag. You don't want to see anyone get hurt, but by the same token, you don't want someone screaming bloody murder and crying on the ice...bad for morale.

I've played with guys like that:sarcasm:

God, there's one girl in our league (or at least, was in our league) who was.... a little over the top. She had to collapse in a big pile of drama at least once a game. On the other hand, one of the other girls is known for her stickwork in front of the net and has been known to start shoving when she gets pissed. And in a women's tournament, at least one tried to take my head off with a shoulder-high slash. There are all types in both genders.

I get pissed when guys get overly physical, but more because of the "Seriously, I'm 5-foot-4 and you have to crosscheck me to move me out of the front of the net?" aspect. Bumping happens. I get pissed when anyone gets overly physical with beginners too, because that's kind of assholish and the guys who do it are invariably the NHLers-in-their-own-mind variety. It's friggin' beer league. They're not getting scouted.

And don't worry, Jarick, you're not alone in your feelings. The vast majority of guys who play aren't that good looking either.

I remember in one of my summer leagues this one girl tried to hit me when I had the puck (3 on 3 league) so I pretty much just threw my hip at her to protect the puck and she went flying. She decided to throw a fit afterwards at the ref claiming that I threw a bodycheck... which made no sense, because I had the damn puck!

You have to expect that in beer league hockey. Some guys will throw hits and some guys will get chippy in front of the net. We all deal with it from time to time... guys going for slewfoots, sticking the stickblade in the back of the knee, etc etc. Your gender won't earn you any preferential treatment.

You can throw a hit when you have the puck (though it's not recorded as a hit in the NHL - you are allowed to initiate body contact with a defender if he tries to engage you). Whether or not what you did was legal depends on the rules of your league. Some allow incidental contact, but if you threw your hip at her to initiate contact, it would be illegal. There's no reason for her to throw a fit, but it sounds like you were in the wrong there as well.

I don't mind the shoving/jostling. Hell, I got wiped out hard on Tuesday by a guy who came to put a body on me in front of the net and didn't stop in time, so he knocked me off my feet onto my back. He clearly didn't mean it. I got up pissed because it hurt when I landed and the ref talked to him but didn't call him since it was unintentional, and I was fine with that. If he had done it again, I would be more annoyed.

I mind the illegal things because.... they're illegal. And I don't understand why someone would resort to illegal things when they could very easily and legally move me. Almost all of the defensemen in my league are much better players than me. Why resort to the cross check? It's just lazy and mean spirited. And it's not just on me or other girls - there's no reason to do it to any of the less skilled players out there (of which I am one). It's friggin' beer league, and the lowest-level one at that.

When I played high school hockey (2 years ago) we had 2 girls on our team, one winger and our starting goaltender. They always changed with us and for changing into sports bras or underarmour etc... they used the washroom. On my rep team we had one girl and she always chose to change in our room rather than a female room with members of the other team.

Its not like its a big deal, were all human and its not like you haven't seen someone in their underwear before. There's just a common courtesy, don't go around naked with females in the room.

Yeah we all change in the same room typically.

Some gals prefer to put their undershirts and Jills on in another bathroom, and then come in to finish dressing.

Other gals don't care at all.

Personally I hate it when I am in the dressing room having a conversation with someone and the guy right next to him drops trow.:shakehead

I'd much rather have the ugly fat chic do that, than any of my male team-mates. I hate it. Reminds me of that scene from Slapshot.

On almost all of the teams I played for, we had a girl on it (high school, house league and summer league) and she/they always changed ina seperate room. I'm not sure, but I think that that's policy for the school board, the League governing body and the summer league governing body as well.

The girls change with us in my two leagues, but usually no one gets naked in the locker room itself. If you need to change underwear, you go to the connected bathroom. If you're going to shower, you put on a towel before taking off your shorts.

It's really no big deal.

I played one summer in a friendly co-ed league. Each game had three change rooms. One for the guys on Team 1, one for the guys on Team 2, and a third for the girls on both teams to share. .....

This is the arrangement I always see.

Co-ed league. Never seen a girl get naked, they normally keep their undergarmets on. Most of the guys change jocks in the bathroom or a strategically placed towel. Except "Naked Guy", who makes guys uncomfortable on a weekly basis. The locker room is his naked-time, and he doesn't change that for ANYONE.

What a shock, a woman getting defensive over a minor comment

Twas a joke, my dear kamptom. Jarick got it. Hell, anyone who has seen most beer leaguers probably gets it.

When I changed in a co-ed room, there were a couple "naked guys." But hey, if they were comfortable with it then whatever. Who am I to tell them to put some freaking shorts on?

You don't have to answer this, but did you get "excited"? :naughty:

I just ask because most locker rooms I know of have guys walking around with no shame if you catch my drift.

I'm glad you said it because I would've if you hadn't .

seriously though, we had our 3v3 beginner league playing at the same rink as our advanced Over35 league. the games, on 2 different rinks had slight crossover in times. one of the girls was not shy about using the shower. she met a goalie from the 35 league in there and now they're engaged. true story.

Rule of thumb is that everyone keeps their last layer of underwear on, and turns around if they need to change it. That keeps everyone comfortable without much trouble or inconvenience. I have seen this in numerous locker rooms.

I mean really, is it necessary to face a room full of people to change your underwear?
