What about Reilly?
That's tougher due to age, position

I think a better comp would be Elias Petterson.
Which if we were in a playoff spot, he had the same cap hit as Chych for 2.5 more years.. I'd do it, even with a late first attached... Especially if we were unloading a contract like they are trying to and we had alot of center prospects like LA has RHD

I think

Chych + Ingram

Clarke + 23' first + Moverare + Petterson

Makes alot of sense. Coyotes say they got 2 first's and a prospect. LA picks up a very solid backup and loses that contract.

Ya think?
Spence - for the second year in a row is close to being a ppg Dman in the AHL and acclimated himself last season in the Kings
Durzi - for all his warts is an offensive standout whose defensive game is picking up while playing his offside
Grans - has been coming along nicely in Ontario for being a converted forward and has coveted measurables at 6’4”, 210 with a game reminiscent of Hampus Lindholm

If the Kings do anything well it’s draft and develop Dmen, Faber would be on the list if not for the LA-Minny trade and Kirill Kirsanov has been looking really good in that country but he’s signed for two more seasons.
With all that, I'm not sure why you need Chychrun

We dont need Chychrun. We need a strong 2nd pair LHD who can provide shutdown defense and allow Durzi to do his thing. That would solve the problem.
We would like Chychrun. There is a lot we can do with him. We could make a superpair with Chychrun and Doughty and let them play 28 minutes. Anderson moves down with Durzi to 2nd pair.
But anyone who thinks LA is backed into a corner and our future depends on getting him and he is the missing piece so we will bend over is mistaken.

I have no problem with how you estimate the value of your players. You know them better then I do but it we want fair value for our players also. I am sure no one in this negotiation feels like they are backing anyone into a corner. Like you, we know what we have and we want fair compensation. If the Coyotes can't get that from LA, no biggie. We can look else where.

So the rumored dumps are Walker and Lemieux? That’s not terribly unpalatable. Lemieux is overpaid by like 500k and Walker by like 900k. Not bad. Lemieux is UFA after this season and Walker after next.

I really think Spence makes the most sense as the secondary asset. He’s easily worth a 2nd. We’ll need the PP help badly after Chychrun and Ghost are gone. LA still won’t have room for him even after moving Walker. Gives Grans better minutes to develop over time in Ontario.

They won’t do two 1sts because of the Fiala trade. No way. None of their prospects are worth a 1st other than Kaliyev (assuming Vilardi, Byfield, and Clarke are not available).

To LAK
Chychrun
Dineen
McGregor
SJS ‘24 4th

To ARI
Kaliyev
Spence
Walker
Lemieux
LAK ‘23 1st

^ Dineen, McGregor, Walker and Lemieux are all completely without trade value. They’re nothing.

The deal is Chychrun for a 1st (‘23) a 1st equivalent (Kaliyev) and a 2nd equivalent (Spence).

Just what the rumored ask has been all along. Us draft nerds can be happy because we got another 1st. And the impatient goons who can’t understand the rebuild can be happy because they get two young NHL ready players who can help the PP right away. Very next game.

I like Spence quite a bit. Loved him in Moncton.

Kaliyev is so productive and I want to like him but he’s like Kessel. Not really a bad thing all things considered. Just a weird dude.

Yeah, Kaliyev is a very different kind of kid. Not like 99% of kids in hockey. I think it’s alright. What skeptics accuse Guenther of being is what Kaliyev actually is. And that’s pretty darn good.

I also like Spence a lot. I think both players can help an NHL PP right now today. How much better they become, above and beyond PP specialist, only time will tell.

Spence is 5'10'', we don't need another midget on the right side, we've already got Soderstrom. Can't have two shrimps on that side.
Nobody seems to mind having Gostisbehere on the ice for this team. That’s usually a good time and we all have fun watching him play. :dunno:

Having said that, Grans would be fine, too. I just have a suspicion LA would rather give us Spence and keep Grans, purely for timeline and “composition” reasons (Doughty, Roy, Durzi). And if we’re demanding Kaliyev and a 1st, I feel like the 3rd best asset is the one to compromise on. ;)

I feel like LA is just not a good trade partner, most anyone who has value and it's "oh he's off the table!!!". No Villardi, no Byfield, no Clarke, top 10 protected 1st...I feel like the Coyotes just need to move on. Let the Kings try to score a discount somewhere else.

In this proposal we're only getting one pick. Maybe 1st + Kaliyev + 2nd is a better fit for what Bill wants?

I think the asset Blake seemingly “caved” on is Vilardi. We all know Armstrong wanted him last year and Blake said no. Now the trade is supposedly close and the only assets mentioned as untouchable are Clarke and Byfield. Vilardi makes sense to me.

It’s being reported today that Vilardi and a 1st was offered by Blake to BA last year and BA declined.

Vilardi is on a 55 point pace while playing great two way hockey. The goal is for the Kings to get better, not a sidegrade.

Yep. Vilardi has improved his value a lot. If I recall correctly, I did not want Vilardi, Durzi and a 1st near the deadline, but after yet another injury and surgery and uncertainty with Chychrun I did want Vilardi, Durzi and a 1sr by draft day. Now Vilardi has improved at it seems unlikely as he’s a key piece for LA’s playoff drive.

Kaliyev and Spence are the new Vilardi and Durzi. Haha.
