Don't mind it, give Benning a seat for a couple games.
my guess Garrison or Gavel or a benning trade tomorrowAren’t we over the roster limit? Somebody being sent down?
You guys will like him, coaches in Ottawa are brain dead and he has that offensive potential that can open the game at times.
He used to be a below-average-speed guy, but it was acceptable on the 3rd pair because we'd use him on our 2nd PP unit where he was just barely good enough to justify his roster spot.
Now, after his injury, he's slower than tectonic shifts in an ice age and is still just as lazy transitioning into his own zone as he was before the injury, but it's far more glaring now that he's lost a gear.
If you guys use him as a PP specialist and keep a really defensive D-man with him at all times at even-strength, it could work out for you guys. Just don't expect any of his stats from before this season to be relevant with his new weaker gearbox. He might put up some numbers if you guys are going to give him some dedicated powerplay minutes, just don't expect him to hustle to cover the back 150 feet of the ice.
he's got potential offensively. boucher never really used him that much. he does make mistakes defensively though.
to be fair if i had chabot and lajoie i wouldnt use wideman much offensively eitherYou guys will like him, coaches in Ottawa are brain dead and he has that offensive potential that can open the game at times.
... awesome
Just a little guy....somebody here isn’t going to like it....
Is he Matt Benning? No? Good deal regardless of what he is. He could drive the Zamboni for all I care if it keeps Benning away from the ice.He used to be a below-average-speed guy, but it was acceptable on the 3rd pair because we'd use him on our 2nd PP unit where he was just barely good enough to justify his roster spot.

Jezuz crist... I don't get the hate for Russell. Do you watch the f***ing games?Russell part 2?
Maybe Russell and his $4mil are on their way out?
Will H-Cock help Wideman find his defensive side?
Without looking, I'm pretty sure Ryan Jones went there.

For a sixth in 2020, i'll take it.Hey, you guys all seem to hate the guy Wideman is replacing, though, so it's maybe still an upgrade?
It would be a good story if he could find a decent back-end of his career in Edmonton. He turns 29 in about a month though, so I hope none of you think there's more to his game than anything that has ever been seen before. He's not a prospect or an up-and-comer... he is what he is at this point. What you see is what you get.

Ryan Jones! Is this the first University of Miami (Ohio) alum to play for the Oilers?

He is a 4/5 D. Yes he is worth value.Does Russell provide value? Sure. $4M worth of value? Ehhhhhhhhhh...
