Fine to say you don't watch Hawks games, aside from Bedard (currently injured) there is no reason to watch.Between this and Foligno, Jesus Christ Chicago.
I understand you have to use up cap space but WTF.
been there, done that already. They have Bedard now, the time for acquiring every 2nd round pick you can get your hands on is coming to an end, it's time to take a more thoughtful approach when it comes to development of all the players you drafted between 2022-24 and build a real roster over a multi-year periodbecause you could use that cap space to broker other deals, or take bad cap hit plus draft picks/prospects.
Because neither side in good faith is going to operate off a "wink wink nudge nudge" handshake 'agreement' regarding what contract they'll sign for on July 1, 2024 while a different team has exclusive negotiating rights until then.Seems like a missed opportunity to add another pick for going 20 games without Dickinson while still having a very high chance of signing Dickinson anyway.
I watched him enough on the Nucks to know.Fine to say you don't watch Hawks games, aside from Bedard (currently injured) there is no reason to watch.
Dickinson is worth this deal. Bumping up AAV to get 2 years instead of 4 or 5 makes a lot of sense.

Well ya, that’s why I said very high chance. I just don’t think it’s realistic at all to expect some other team would give him the contract Chicago did. And in that sense it’s a risk for Dickinson that Chicago wouldn’t offer him the same contract in the offseason, but as far as Chicago is concerned there’s probably a very good chance he’d take that same contract in July.Because neither side in good faith is going to operate off a "wink wink nudge nudge" handshake 'agreement' regarding what contract they'll sign for on July 1, 2024 while a different team has exclusive negotiating rights until then.
Just fyi, he's played for the Canucks for just 15 % of his NHL career. And while I'm sure for you, that was the most important and only relevant aspect to his career, if you look a bit outside of yourself and realize that the Canucks aren't the main character of the NHL, you might see that there is 85 % of the rest of his NHL career to draw inferences from.I watched him enough on the Nucks to know.
You think they should re-make an entire roster after a total teardown in one season? That's how you get yourself in trouble if you start giving out 5, 6, 7 year deals to everyone who hits July 1st.So Blackhawks basically not even trying to contend during Bedard's ELC?
I watched him enough on the Nucks to know.
And just because he's playing lots and putting up points on a shit team does not justify the AAV.
It's like in the NBA where players get a ton of points playing on a crap team and get paid for it.
It is what it is but there's no chance in hell that the same player would get a similar contract from essentially any other team.
Pure circumstance.
But good for Nick and Dick.
Dickenson signed with Chicago since he has no pressure to perform, no pressure to win and will make more. In Vancouver he had more pressure to perform and that's why he couldn't perform under stress. Playing in Chicago is stress free now.Cool to see that Vancouver was clearly just a bizarre blip on the radar for Dickinson's career. Not that he's worth anything close to this AAV, but i think it speaks volumes that he's become one of the guys they prioritized burning some of that spare cap space on as a good veteran mentor and "insulation" for the young players. He's back to being exactly the player Vancouver thought they were getting.
It's probably double what he's really "worth" on the open market to a contender, or close to it...but that's the trade-off to pay a guy to toil away doing unsung work on a bad team to insulate the kids. Especially on short term like that.
Good for him though. Making the most of what he's got to set himself up great financially. He'll be able to afford to take a little haircut to go cup hunting with a team of his choice after this deal too, in his final years if he wants to.
Also certainly rules him out as a potential deadline rental, but his value to the Hawks as a veteran presence is probably worth more than whatever pick he'd fetch...when they already have an overflow of picks and prospects anyway.
Broken hand didn’t help him in VancouverDickenson signed with Chicago since he has no pressure to perform, no pressure to win and will make more. In Vancouver he had more pressure to perform and that's why he couldn't perform under stress. Playing in Chicago is stress free now.
I understand your perspective - and from an asset retention perspective it would be the smart play.Is Chicago trying to win this season though? I get they need to ice a somewhat NHL roster for the rest of the season but what are the chances Dickinson is getting that contract from any team he’s traded too? Seems like a missed opportunity to add another pick for going 20 games without Dickinson while still having a very high chance of signing Dickinson anyway.
