they could really use some guys who can score at the AHL level. Hopefully Gibbons and Rychel will help their anemic offense.

They've really kept the contract list on the Canes super-compact relative to other teams that have tons of crap and filler on their 50-man roster. That's probably had some impact on their lack of scoring so far, as they're relying a lot more on AHL contracts than other teams.

It’s an ahl deal, so I don’t think so?
it was still an ahl thing as of a few seasons ago

"Hartford Wolf Pack general manager Jim Schoenfeld announced that the Wolf Pack have claimed forward T.J. Hensick off waivers from the Abbotsford Heat.

Hensick, a seventh-year pro out of the University of Michigan, signed an AHL contract with the Heat but was subject to AHL waivers because he began the season in Europe. "

Well then I have no idea. I thought waivers were just an Nhl/Ahl thing

@Lempo pls
AHL CBA seems not to be publicly available, but it makes sense I guess that there are waivers rules and that they mirror the NHL ones. In NHL the player needs to be on your reserve list (=you own the player's rights before signing). A cold signing of a guy from overseas league after their season has started is subject to having to be offered on waivers in the NHL.

Baby Canes got their obligatory singular goal on Teddy Bear Toss night, outside of that it's been some of the most atrocious hockey I've ever witnessed. 9 min left down 2-1, but just had a 0 shot PP and we lose the puck without pressure more than we complete passes. No effort and everyone is 3 seconds slow to everything, we look hungover

EDIT: 3-1 ****ing embarrassing

EDIT EDIT: 4-1 about a min later...whole team has given up...everyone clearing out

Last season must feel like a long time ago for the holdovers.

I haven't watched the Checkers as much as last season, but I have watched 7-8 games. Last night was the best the team has played in those games. They still look significantly less organized than the past two seasons, but last night the whole team seemed to play with confidence.

While Gauthier scored the first two goals, the best players were in this order:

Luostarinen: He was noticeable and effective all over the ice. Several times he either stole the puck or sent it back behind the net as the opponents were trying to transition out of their own end. Luostarinen looked like an NHLer playing in the AHL.

Kuokkanen: Maybe it was the layoff, but last night he looked like the all-star selection from the first half of last season. While his skating isn't overwhelming, his anticipation is noticeable when he is playing well.

Bean: What has surprised me, given that Warsofsky is known as a defensive specialist, is that the D has not looked good at any time this season. Last night the D looked solid and Bean made plays in both ends.

Lorentz: He is noticeable in good ways. Likely a life-long AHLer, but a player who should be able to fill in for 2-3 games in a pinch.

Gauthier had the goals and still looks to have a great skill set.
Geekie was injured early on.
