Fairly decent, considering all the leverage Carlson had -- best UFA out there, career year, utter lack of in-house options/depth.

Still, another scary contract, almost on par with Oshie's. On the bright side, Caps will now be pretty much forced to rely heavily on the youth movement to fill the holes -- they just won't have the cap space for any stupid contracts, haha. And the other bright side is that now we know BMac is capable of acting decisively to move big contracts when he has to. Just keep drafting good 4th round goalies, haha.

Burns 32 10,95%
Hedman 25 10,79%
Byfuglien 30 10,41%
Ekblad 20 10,27%
Karlsson 22 10,11%
Pietrangelo 23 10,11%
Carlson 28 10,06%
Keith 26 9,75%
Seabrook 31 9,63%
Enström 27 9,58%
Vlasic 31 9,33%
Giordano 31 9,25%
Shattenkirk 28 8,87%
Yandle 30 8,7%
Fowler 26 8,67%
Girardi 30 8,55% (bought out)
Myers 21 8,55%
OEL 21 8,55% (current one)
Bouwmeester 30 8,40%
Niskanen 27 8,33%

E Johnson 27 8,22%

And keep in mind that pretty much every contract signed pre-27 years of age bought some RFA years (IOW more costcontrolled)

Fwiw, no beat writer broke the oshie deal, the oshie trade, the orpik trade etc before the capitals twitter announced it. Shows gmbm is really tight lipped

Plus most of the national media guys are national media for a reason. They're connected and they get fed preferred information.

I doubt most of the big deals that happen are fed to local beat reporters first...for ANY team except maybe the NY, LA, or Toronto squads. This isn't the 40s with cub reporters running around with ears to walls listening for scoops.

I feel like it was here or Jersey and nowhere else was an option.

When you look around the league at the teams that could afford to take on 8.5 who was a contender? After looking at it pretty carefully I came up with the Devils.
I was scared of the Islanders after they had money to spend and Trotz

Yeah I thought of them but Boychuk at 6.0, Leddy at 5.5 and lets face it Tavares is coming back, at 11 mil, really tightens it up there with only 13 players signed for next season (14 if JT is re-signed).

Carlson’s wife’s post on Facebook was very sweet.

I think JT is going to the Sharks or Leafs. Trotz will be stuck with the shit roster he quit on us for.

Honestly if I am JT I definitely leave, outside of getting a great coach and some high end offensive guys, I just don't see it there. That combined with the playing games in two arenas for the next three seasons are super red flags for me as a player.

That being said, I have heard it said all weekend that JT does not want to "quit" on the Isles and he especially doesn't want to be seen as the villain in this scenario, which of course at this point he would be.
