So then you trade him, you don’t give him 10.5 million that’s ridiculous. You don’t build your team around a goalie. Just because another team makes a mistake it doesn’t mean we should. On top of it a goalie only plays maximum 70-75 % of the games... Bad bad move..
Yet TBay & Fla didn’t shy away from making Vasilevsky & Bobrovsky amongst their highest paid players? Strange that Dale Tallon couldn’t simply find a $4M goalie...since they grow on trees.

Actually McDavid is the highest paid player in the league.

Only Price and Brobosky make more money than McJesus per game played. Makes no sense.
It made no sense how little Pacioretty was getting paid in a Habs uni for his goal scoring prowess - next only to Ovi over a 5-year span. Might be applicable to Gallagher’s present deal.

Timing is everything..

The only thing that makes no sense here is you...

There are at least three Leafs off the top of my head who make more than any of those guys.

And welcome to the NHL man... players leapfrog each other all the time. Karlsson was underpaid for a long time. Then he got to the end of his deal and then got paid. That's how it works. Next year there will be several more making 10+...

You’re confused, Goalies play 60 games and forward play 80 games.
And goalies play 60 minutes of those games. They can also make up for a lot of mistakes and carry a mediocre club to the playoffs. If your team is terrible, they can't save you but they can do a hell of a lot to help you.

And a bad goalie can cost you games. That's why getting a five million dollar guy is a risky venture. If he sucks behind a good team, he can cost you a championship. Go ask the Senators about that.

Big deal they play 60 minutes, they stand still for 50 of those minutes.

Dude just stop. Should we look at per minute played too?

Get real.
I don't think anyone needs to convince you that this is a backbreaking deal.

Would you pay a very good player (say panarin) 11m a year if you knew that he couldn't play more than 60 games a year?

The thing that bothers me is that price is only elite for 25-40 of those 60 starts a year. The other starts he's either pedestrian or shitty, actually costing us points.

Yes he sure did get payed.... FOR WHAT HE DID IN THE PAST! His contract is going to cripple the Sharks, because Karlsson isn’t half the player he was. The Sharks payed him for what he did in Ottawa.. dum da dum dum DUMB.

It's not a backbreaker at all. Again, even if you think he should've gotten eight... it's a delta of two mil. No big deal.

The killer deals are the Alzners of the world where you pay 5 mil and send the guy to the minors, getting nothing out of it.

Again, the deal is fine. We just didn't build a team. Same thing is happening in Edmonton. The only difference is that McDavid isn't penalized on his numbers every time the Oilers give up a goal.

Price has hurt his own trade value with his disinterested play. It's not as if he's playing his balls off every night, he's fed up/feeling sorry for himself most nights, capitulating on plays before they happen.

It's unbecoming for one of the highest paid players in the world, and a big reason why I'm so pissed of at him. He's a quitter.
He’s far from being Patrick Roy

You’re right we didn’t build a team. But Price’s contract is not fine. No goalie should be making that kind of money. Bergevin should have put his foot down. And yes, 2 million makes a BIG difference. 2 million here, 2 million there, it all ads up, you need to maximize the value of every contract that’s given, you have to penny pinch every player, that’s how you build properly in a cap league.

You would've put your foot down? That changes everything then. Why didn't you say so at the beginning? I'm sure Price would've worked for hotdogs and beer.
