The main thing people are missing in this thread is that Niederrieter is a superb defensive player. People are looking at his scoring going down and scoffing but he remains very very strong at preventing shots against.

Wtf...that’s all it took to get Nino?!

I think he’s still a good middle-6 forward.

What is making some of you say he is not a good hockey player anymore? All underlying statistics disagree with that statement. On pace for 41 points this season as well.

Like this a lot for the Canes. For obvious reasons. The difference in player quality is not close to the 1.25M cap hit difference.

What the hell are you talking about Rask has a lower PPG than Niederreiter each of the past 3 seasons while being an utterly miserable drain on possession. He's worse than Brandon Sutter.

Niederreiter is having a mediocre season but he was great last year. On top of that, he has had fantastic underlying numbers in the past. This is a massive win for the Canes.
No he was bad last year, though a lot of it was due to a high ankle sprain and a broken leg. His skating was bad last year, but has bounced back this year. Just seems to be snakebitten...he usually has nice hands from close in, and a nice shot, as well as being a complete PITA around the other teams net.
He will be missed in MN...great guy, but with a resurgent Parise, Zucker, Granlund, and Greenway as LSW it didn't take a genius to see that one of either Zucker or Nino was likely to move.

Surprised that more teams weren't in on Nino as a depth forward with scoring upside.

Would hope that MN got more than just Rask. The cap savings aren't that major...Rask looks like a 4th liner at this point.

Watching him play the last 2 seasons. Nino is also very average defensively even though his corsi stats seems good. Probably more to do with the fact that he always got to play with strong possession players. Also Nino was probably the only Wild forward in the top-9 who never got any short-handed time.
