Rask was going to be a healthy scratch once staal came back and Min needs 3rd line center. Both players are trending downward but Canes need someone who can shoot around 12%. Logical swap considering Rask is paid less.

This isn't nearly as good of a deal for Carolina as people think. Nino has been complete garbage for 2 years now.

This is essentially garbage for garbage until one of these 2 guys prove otherwise. My money is on neither guy proving to be worth anything.

He isn't as good as he was in 2016-17 but he wasn't garbage... points aren't everything.

Hey, at least Rask won't take any penalties :sarcasm:

gotta love these challenge trades.

Both players have 3 years left, an interesting deal for sure.

Geeze what the hell is this? What a horrendous trade by Minny... They will continually be just a pretty good regular season team that loses in the 1st round.

That is BAD my god

Why don't you give me the lotto numbers while you're at it, Nostradamus.

Dumping Rask who currently for Carolina is absolutely useless in all facets of the game would have been celebrated in Carolina. Don't care what Nino does, he has 9 goals. Rask can't score, can't defend, can't skate

Now, I'm not saying Rask can't rebound. I hope he does he has had a couple pretty good years in Carolina. But currently just getting rid of him for nothing was talked about a lot

The Canes making the playoffs won't have anything to do with this trade

I could see Nino being somewhat productive if he gets to play with Aho

Don't know much about Rask, but as I Wild fan I can tell you Nino has been terrible the past two seasons. Fenton has been trying to unload him for some time now.

I like it more for CAR than MIN, especially since CAR got rid of Rask, but I think it works well for both teams as a classic change of scenery type deal. CAR gets a more productive player, this season so far at least, and a somewhat proven scorer with term, in case Ferland is out the door, which seems very likely now. MIN saves some $$$ and gets a C who was not fitting in on the Canes. I bet Rask regains his 40pt form next season. If both guys can keep up 40pt or so seasons next year, win-win for both.

Nice deal for the Wild. Nino is a top 9 winger but he never really panned out the way many thought.

People talk about Nino like he fell off a cliff. What I've seen of him doesn't look like he has and underlying numbers don't seem to imply it, but still a little bit of risk. not as much as for Minnesota though lol

Fair assessment then.. thats basically what I was getting at.

Looks like a change of scenery type deal.
Hopefully the players and teams benefit.
