We'll see how this goes for both sides.
Trocheck had a hard time clicking with wingers not named Reilly Smith or Huberdeau.
In 2015-16 Tro was hungry, playing a 200 ft game and had a chippy game. Wasn't a pest per say but was physical in both zones and played most games like it was a playoff game. Quickly won the 2nd line center spot over Bjugstad who had slowly become lethargic in both the offensive and defensive zones.
Following year he had another good year even with the team imploding with the firing of Gallant and Rowe being a moronic coach. Still hustled on both ends.
17-18 was Boogie's time as the coach and he brought in new styles of change. Vinny took on a more offensive mindset, got PP1 time and responded with his best year point wise. Defensively, his game dropped, but there was questions if it was coaching, or just an blip in his game.
18+ on Vinny hasn't been the same. Offensively he would become more careless with the puck, wouldn't utilize his wingers at all and his defensive/tenacity on the ice just wasn't there. The leg injury obviously set him back and post injury for 18-19 I didn't think it was fair to analyze his game. Looked slower, but as expected.
19-current unfortunately was the same Vinny that looked off after his injury. Bad decisions with the puck, still slower and couldn't get past the defenders for a good shot. Defensively, under Q, still looked the same with Boogie. Gave me vibes of Versteeg post contract in just making bad choices with the puck.
Maybe getting on a better team, with different leaders may wake up the old Vinny. I hope it does, as I have nothing against the guy. Was a fan favorite for a long time(in Panthers time lol).
The Panthers have seen a supposed strength quickly vanish due to trades and decline in play for the center spot. Going into last year they had Barkov, Trocheck, Bjugstad, McCann, Borgstrom, Malgin and then guys like Sceviour and other 4th line wingers that could play 4th line center.
Traded off Bjugstad and McCann for cap+Brassard &Sheahan.
Traded off Malgin this year and Borgstrom regressed.
So, it was Barkov, meh Trocheck and AHL centers, with Boyle out for a long time.
With Trocheck gone, at least they have 3 NHL centers, with lower ceilings, for the short term and hopefully they can sign Wallmark for a 2-3 deal(RFA) and maybe Haula depending on how he does.
