Almost Canada
Kuzy (and probably Sammy) are not eligible to play until they clear the Covid protocol, regardless of the other issues. IINM that means 3 clear tests spanning at least a week from the date of possible exposure.

Hard pass on Danault.

Is Monahan a 1 year stop gap for McMichael?

I'd rather take 2 1sts from Cbus and buy a goaltender with the cap money.

Consider for a bit what you are suggesting. You want to go experienced high end goalie instead of a legit 1c because you dont like baby goalies. Then you are suggesting putting a baby center between Ovechkin and Wilson and expect to win with that.

Vanecek will be better next season with experience anyway

u are quick to throw kuzy away... the dude had all kind of seasons, he is unpredictable ok but the caps generally dont care about production in the season... even off ice issues (i cant find any solid reports on that matter). if he has another 2018 playoffs, the frustrating no shows in regular season mean very little.

What is your definition of quick? This is more of a straw that broke the camel's back thing, not a knee jerk reaction. Do you want to see the list again?

Hard pass on trading Kuz for futures unless they know they have a deal in place to use those futures to get a replacement. They've consistently been one of the best teams in the NHL since they got Eller and Kuzy because they have top 5 center depth in the league. If you ship Kuzy out there needs to be a plan to replace him. I don't think Backstrom / Eller / Raffl or whoever / Dowd is a recipe for success.

I like the idea of Monahan a lot. He'll be insulated here with Backstrom and Eller which is not something he gets in Calgary and he's signed for two more years after this season -- same as Lars Eller -- which is the perfect amount of time to see how the team progresses and how McMichael / Protas / Lapierre progress, and going from Kuzy to Monahan would save them $1.425M in cap space.

Unless they can go big and grab Eichel I think Monahan is probably their best bet. Or maybe some other team like Montreal who has a lot of young center depth wants an established center like Kuz so they can accelerate their competitive window and a deal could be made there. Either way, I see zero chance that BMac trades Kuz for futures and goes into next year with a big hole in the lineup.

I think the reality is that replacing Kuznetsov would almost have to come from a seperate transaction that the trade where he exits. I would imagine its unlikely Kuzy waives for Calgary. Maybe the Caps could trade Kuzy to a place they can trade him for futures and then get Monahan in a seperate deal. That seems more doable. Is Krecji a pending UFA?

Is Danault even better than Lars Eller? This is the roster spot that is Ovechkin's 5 on 5 center. Is Danault really the guy you want in that role?
Well, considering he has centered one of the best 5v5 lines in the NHL the past 3 seasons, I would assume he would be just fine.

Best? He has 5 goals this season. He produces more like Lars Eller than Nick Backstrom. If he is an elite offensive player, why is he not on pp1 or pp2 on that team? Maybe I am slow but a guy that doesnt rate pp toi on the #17 pp in the league doesnt strike me as a guy you would project as Ovechkin's center

Not that I'm against the hard-ass teaching from Lavi, but this team needs Kuznetsov if it wants to win the Cup

To be more specific, they need a Kuznetsov that they havent had since they won the cup. The Kuzy they have is destructive. This current dumpster fire so close to the playoffs is just about the worst of his series of dumpster fires. If the players dont want him in the room anymore, do you force Kuzy on them?

Got an email from the caps today. They're selling playoff tickets but you can only buy one game per round. Sucks but given dc stadium limits it is probably reasonable.

Yeah, Kuzy looks nowhere near his 2018 form and seems to be spiralling in the wrong direction.

They are going to have to find another way to win a Cup without him being the MVP.

I would happily promote McMichael and trade Kuzy if it meant adding multiple firsts and/or a blue chip like Chinakhov.

They'll still be in the conversation and set for future.

What about RNH @$6-7M? Career production similar to Kuzy, same age, maybe less top end talent but less of a head case? I don't follow his game that much, he's not 1OA worthy but he's not a massive downgrade from Kuzy and should be cheaper.... thoughts?

Big game experience? Playoff experience? Past that, I would be ok with that. I like Krejci better. He is a winner and an eastern conference player

Not only he's a winner, he's arguably been the best center for the Bruins in many of their deep runs. A definition of playoff performer.

Not against RNH too but would prefer to go absolutely full pedal to the metal for Eichel. Whatever it takes. Kuznetsov and any futures they want.

Trade Kuzy for picks and prospects, sign RNH. I like it.

Does the Kuzy on the Covid list seem like bunk to anyone besides me? It just seems too convenient an option for coaches to not utilize, while providing a sliver of truth. My point if a player is missing team events, I can see a coach willing to assume he is a risk taking dumbass and was probably out getting covidically exposed when he should have been with the team.

Kuzy must feel like a dumbass for missing out on being with Oshie/#DatHat

I mean the idea we come out of any transaction with a better player on a better contract is a little overly optimistic, putting it lightly. The question is how much of a downgrade and is it really a downgrade if its addition by subtraction - swapping out talented but not dedicated for dedicated but less talented? Is that really a loss?

I'm not even sure we will get to see if Kuzy can be CS Kuz again.... feels like he may have played his last game here?
