It's a definite retool. Management is stocking up on prospects to take transition into our new core while still staying competitive today.

Anyway I say we give it a final attempt this season and then start a full rebuild.
This isn't a rebuilding team its a playoff team that has the talent that could win it all if it can be lucky and stay healthy. We now have some solid prospects pushing for spots and some who are legit top line potential. Canucks are in a great position in avoiding a full out rebuild and sucking for years. Torts should be able to give this core a kick in the ass.
I don't think we have the room to sign a big ticket ufa? Isn't that cap room to fill out the team? Maybe if Booth is gone we can afford it.
Well with the removal of Ballard & Schneider from our roster we have cleared up cap space to sign someone significant so I imagine Gillis & co will pursue those UFA opportunities & we will see where we go from there.
(And that is not to overlook the fact that Gillis is being destroyed in the court of public opinion for not trading Luongo two years ago, and I understand why.)
They are better because they are paying less for starter-quality goaltending and have or will shortly have room to sign the rest of a team, which they sure as heck did not have with two number one goalies.
.
Gillis was the instrument of this situation. His hubris may of cost the Canucks a very good goaltender at the very least. Prospects are just that and Horvat has the potential to bust like any prospect does. I hope the Canucks come out on top on this, but redardless of the outcome Gillis should be fired.
Bullcrap. He got a lousy return for Schneider (would have expected a 2nd as well), but he was painted into a corner by the new CBA. The league has not treated the Canucks well, ******** officiating in the finals, and a CBA that screwed the Canucks and Luongo.
And I see us as doing an internal rebuild, (if any of the choices were really accurate) where we see the potential for a great team in 5 years when we see Luongo leave and the Sedins call it quits.
And I don't think there will be a bidding war for the UFA, those teams who throw money around are mostly pretty much near the cap now.
You need to take your tin hat off, every team in the league can say the same thing. Fact is there are teams that were smart enough to know where the wind was blowing and others who behaved like a 5yr old in a candy shop. You are right he did get a lousy return for Schnieder and thats because he painted himself into a corner.
There are way to many ifs in your assesmant, the canucks are just as likely to come out needing a full rebuild after the core is done.
You are also forgetting the cap will most likely rise in the next few years. The GMs know this and are probably going to conservatively factor this in when they bid for a player.
The fact remains Gillis should be fired.
