I wonder why they couldn't get this deal done before camp. My first guess would be the 275k salary in the AHL.... or maybe Vandemeer was holding out for a one way deal.

But then Gillis has to take whatever crap is offered for Ballard plus lose a 2nd round pick to acquire Fistric. Just doesn't seem like something he would do. And as I said, I don't think Fistric would be happy with taking Alberts' spot. You have a guy sulking and that's never good.

To fill those #7 and #8 spots with quality players you have to find guys like Rome that are not established in the NHL yet but have the talent for it. Fistric is way past that stage. (Or otherwise you have to settle for crap like Alberts, Barker and Vandermeer.)

We wouldn't have been able to top Edmonton's offer of 61st overall.

I don't see Edmonton finishing 30th this year. I see them pushing for a playoff spot, especially with only 48 games. I still think we would have had a lower pick with our 3rd though.
