But then Gillis has to take whatever crap is offered for Ballard plus lose a 2nd round pick to acquire Fistric. Just doesn't seem like something he would do. And as I said, I don't think Fistric would be happy with taking Alberts' spot. You have a guy sulking and that's never good.

To fill those #7 and #8 spots with quality players you have to find guys like Rome that are not established in the NHL yet but have the talent for it. Fistric is way past that stage. (Or otherwise you have to settle for crap like Alberts, Barker and Vandermeer.)

I think you are just enamoured by the fact that Fistric is a former first round draft pick that captained the Giants. Fistric hasn't developed very well and has regressed recently. He was the 6th defenseman on a below average blue line in Dallas.

His underlying statistics were also poor.

I don't see Edmonton finishing 30th this year. I see them pushing for a playoff spot, especially with only 48 games. I still think we would have had a lower pick with our 3rd though.

I like the signing - clearly building some D Depth. Vandermeer can play virtually anywhere, and the two-way contract is nice as well.
