How much control does pres have over actual, specific team moves?

ie. if pres wants Gudbranson, but GM thinks it's a bad idea, how will that turn out? And the other way around, if GM thinks a trade is good but the pres does not agree, what will happen?
President just runs the business side + makes the final call
Gm does everything else

Depends entirely on the personalities of the specific people involved.

Is Rutherford a micro-manager or is he laissez-faire?

Due to his age and the fact that he stepped down from his GM post in Pittsburgh for "personal reasons," there is some home that it's the latter.

Maybe they'll hire him to do nothing but sit in the owners suite and make Frankie feel important. While the real hockey ops will be run by someone more capable.
Frankie is going to drive him to his eye doctor appointments and bingo nights

Dhaliwal says keep an eye on Mahoney in Washington or macfarland as strong GM candidates.

Yes please to macfarland! Wonder if he’s one we’d have to wait on for season to end?

Benning joined us end of April as the Bruins were heading off to the playoffs. It's not unheard of for it to be in-season but not sure why team's would let us talk to these candidates unless the candidates are raring to get a GM job.

So what’s Mahoney’s deal in Washington? First time I’ve seen his name mentioned

Was Jim Benning not a part of that club? He didn't generate any goodwill in 8 years?

Yeah we’ve generated a ton of goodwill around the league these past 8 years. Free agents loved coming to Vancouver to get overpaid. Other GMs loved getting Benning on the phone. Other Canadian teams saw us as no threat and their media reps cheered us on, unlike in 2011. That OBC magic worked! It just sucked for all of us Canuck fans.

Rutherford as president isn't the end of the world. For one, it would be mean that, at long last, we would have a POHO again. That alone has to be seen as a positive.

Look at it this way: It's not was Rutherford a good GM in Pittsburgh. It's who do you want making high level hockey decisions to pass onto the GM? Rutherford or FA?

IMHO, in spite of his flaws, the choice is clear.

Do the Canucks now have the oldest GM/HC duo in NHL history? Has to be top 3 at least
