McLeod was one of the last cuts in training camp for the Oilers.. I have hardly seen him mentioned in here. Feel like he'd be a better role player then Veleno.

I don't really see it happening. Veleno is having a really good season and is heavily ingrained in the Hockey Canada program. Just don't really see a spot for McLeod.

Studnicka is not getting that final spot over someone like Ratcliffe or Entwistle.

Merkley is undoubtably the most talented offensive defensemen at Canada's disposal, but he won't be going to the World Juniors, just face it.

I would be tempted to bring him along just for the Power-plays and see how that goes, but they aren't going to waste a roster spot like that.

He has improved drastically defensively since last year, but it won't be enough, despite absolutely loving when he plays with Kevin Bahl, unfortunately it won't be a sight.

I'm going to take a stab in the dark, but Merkley will be on the team next year, I don't even think he gets invited to training camp this year.

I'd like to see a Ratcliffe or someone slot in there on that fourth line.

Brazeau would be a huge body, but seems to never be mentioned. Come to think of it, I don't know if he's eligible.

Merkley is definitely the most flashy offensive guy but I dont know that hes the most effective. I think that title might go to Bouchard who I would much rather have running the first PP. BOuchard is a stud on the PP so no need to bring what would essentially be a PP specialist like Merkley. There are other guys who can take the 2nd PP and handle it well enough combined with Bouchard on the first PP to not need a liability in other places like Merkley. I agree he might be there next year though

Meant to multi quote this but I'll just reply separately. I agree, that lineup could use some size. Ratcliffe had a solid camp and has the perk of being the only player that has size and also really uses it. If Rasmussen isnt returned, I think Ratcliffe might have the inside tracka bit just based on his size. Its hockey Canada, theyre going to want someone they can send in on the forecheck with the potential to lay someone out every time.

I don't think so. It will probably go to a returning player. Now, who that is could be tough to figure out. My guess is they don't get Thomas back, but they could get Comtois, and they absolutely are getting Formenton. If they get Thomas back on loan, I'd be shocked if he isn't captain (but Blues are starting to give him minutes).

Edit: Just to illustrate, here are Canada's last WJC captains going back until 2008. Dillon Dube, Dylan Strome, Brayden Point, Curtis Lazar, Scott Laughton, Jaden Schwartz, Ryan Ellis, Patrice Cormier, Thomas Hickey, and Karl Alzner. Every captain outside of Laughton was a returning 19 year old player. Now, with Canada maybe only having one returning player, it wouldn't shock me to see Bouchard or someone else get it, but it would be unusual. Laughton getting it over G. Reinhart that year is actually surprising in retrospect.

Reinhart was suspended for the first several games of that tournament due to an incident from the previous year. I would guess that if he wasn't suspended for the first several games then he would have been captain.

thumbs up to Brett Leason. The Tyler Steenbergen surprise player award should be renamed. Hopefully Leason can replicate what Steenbergen did last year, net the golden goal.

If he's there, which seems decently likely, I hope that he plays better than Steenbergen did. I find that a lot of the guys who come out of nowhere (Steenbergen, Lipon, Pearson) don't really perform well in the tournament.

Maybe it's recency bias, but that looks like one of the better forward cores we've dressed in a while.

There is also Batherson who came out of nowhere and was a extremely important piece last year.

30M Forward Skate with Puck:

Also, you say there are players "ahead of him in OHL scoring and they are not even invited." Which is a very puzzling statement. See below.

Pt/game scoring of Canadian OHL players eligible for the upcoming WJC...

2018/19 season:
Nick Suzuki
Barrett Hayton
Owen Tippett

2017/18 season:
Gabe Vilardi

... That's it. That's the list. You can be anti-Frost, but at least get your facts straight.

Hello Stizzle,

I am not anti/against any player. May i correct myself when i said Frost is slow? I meant to say he appears slower than most players on the ice, especially compared against opposing players. Please NOTE that the WJHC PACE/SPEED is a lot quicker than CHL games and it is a short tournament. IF player cannot elevate his game speed to the next level, he will NOT be able to help the team. Sure, if you do not want Canada to win gold or have difficulties winning gold, we can always put slower players on the team.

Just a few days, Keating, Austen was ahead of Frost in terms of points. I do not think/anticipate that he will be invited to the camp. Keating is another player who is similar to Frost. Keating did not show that he played the pace which WJHC requires.

Please reread my objective analysis carefully, I said in Scoring (meaning OHL scoring ranking NOT POINT PER GAME).

MAY i ask where did you get the data from ? I just want to verify your information regarding the ON ICE TEST.
Thanks,

Austen Keating? What? Via Elite Prospects at this moment...

Keating: 26gp, 36pts
Frost: 25gp, 41pts

Also, if you want the on-ice test results, just Google it. That's what I did. They at least posted the top 3 finishers in each category.

You seem to be grasping at straws.
