The scouting report about his skating are funny. Tonight he looks like a good skater.

His strides are a bit awkward but he certainly wasn't behind the play despite of that.

Just based off this site and Redd1t, a lot of other Wings fans seem to have a large inferiority complex right now. I guess we're not used to being bad. As someone who tries hard to remain realistic, it's more than a little annoying.

You see it lots with teams that have struggled recently and then have the fortunes turned a bit. 2018 draft looks good for the Wings right now so the fans have something to be hopeful for - that said its about 4 years too early to be celebrating anything about this draft.

Theres gonna be this type in every fan base, though, so its to be expected.

Anyway, the main reason why Detroit got Zadina wasn't because MTL drafted Kotka, but because Arizona drafted Hayton.

He was hard on the forcheck, positionally he was gtg in all theree, zones, made some spectacular passes, really not much negative to say. He needs some muscle maturity lol .

Zadina has great edge work and technique, he’s just not fast. Kotkaniemi is the opposite, good speed just his technique is bad.

Good for Kotka, it's very nice thing for him to start off on a strong foot up there. Needs that foundation.

What lol. The dude doesn't have blazing speed but his edging and agility is fantastic. Speed alone =/= a good skater. Marner doesn't have that great top end speed but I would still consider him a great skater.

What I like most from Kotkaniemi is his long quick stick work. He seems to catch defenders off guard on the forecheck a lot. He definitely needs to work on his edge work and balance/strength but once he does, I think he's going to be a puck possession beast.
