Bills add defensive tackle Tyrunn Walker

The Bills announced the signing of defensive tackle Tyrunn Walker.

Walker joins the Bills after spending 2017 with the Los Angeles Rams. He played in all 16 games making four starts and producing 22 tackles, 1.0 sack and four passes defensed. For his career, he’s played in 58 games with 85 tackles and 4.5 sacks.

He joined the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the New Orleans Saints in 2012. He is a native of New Iberia, Louisiana and played his college football at Tulsa. He is entering his seventh NFL season and in addition to the Saints and the Rams he has also spent time with the Detroit Lions.

AJ and Peterman boy banged up in practice today. Hope Allen doesn’t get forced into action until later in the season.

3 quick takeaways from Day 13 of Bills training camp

The Buffalo Bills reached lucky number 13 of their 2018 training camp at St. John Fisher College in Pittsford on Sunday.

Here are three quick takeaways from Day 13 of Bills camp:

A lot of action happened for quarterbacks on Sunday and much of it appeared to benefit rookie Josh Allen. After AJ McCarron started the team’s last practice on Friday as the first-team QB, Nathan Peterman did so on Day 13.

However, Allen, who started with the threes, saw time with the starters for the second-straight practice after not doing so for four practices. There was a new wrinkle as well for Allen. Working with the ones for a few plays isn’t new, but Allen started to do so with the second-team offense for the first time in training camp.

Joe B: 7 observations from 2018 Buffalo Bills training camp - Day 13

(WKBW) - After a four-day break from Pittsford, NY, the Buffalo Bills returned to St. John Fisher College on Sunday for the start of their final week of training camp. It was the first of four straight days of practice on the campus.

Along with it, we saw the most movement up and down the depth chart than we have since training camp begun. Most days, the changes were more subtle, but Sunday showed differences almost at every position.

The Bills, of course, are armed with a full game's worth of notes on their players, and that's what has likely fueled a lot of the changes. Not to mention, the Bills also had a scuffle between Kyle Williams, Jordan Mills, and then a screaming Jerry Hughes at the end of it.

All in all, Sunday provided one of the more intense practices for the Bills. Seven observations from a loaded Day 13:

1) Injuries and rotations aplenty at QB
2) Surprise cut candidate: Nick O'Leary
3) Matt Milano's starting job in jeopardy?
4) Undrafted rookie moves up the depth chart
5) Zay Jones looks smooth and close to a return
6) Corey Coleman working in with the top unit
7) The battle for backup middle linebacker heats up

Day 13 MVP: TE Logan Thomas

- Thomas corralled a play-action bootleg pass in the end zone from Nathan Peterman on one goal line attempt, and then a few plays later, lined up one-on-one against safety Dean Marlowe and had a fade route thrown to him by Josh Allen. It was a perfect placement, and Thomas high-pointed the ball and tapped both toes in for the score. With other tight ends flashing during camp, this was a big day for Thomas.

Day 13 LVP: OT Jordan Mills

- He is continuously the player in the middle of scuffles during training camp, and he even caused someone as collected as Kyle Williams to uncharacteristically throw punches at him. Even Jerry Hughes screamed at him well after the play was over. Putting that many people at risk is worthy of an LVP, especially when he has been the common denominator for most training camp fights for the past three seasons.

Up Next: Day 14 on Monday, August 13 at 8:45 am.

Sean McDermott: "I Think It's Healthy" (8:00)
HC Sean McDermott talks about injury updates, the quarterbacks and more.

Quick Hits: Battle at wide receiver may be heating up

It’s the third and final week of training camp for the Bills at St. John Fisher. And if you were thinking the Bills might be ready to make big changes in their quarterback rotation this week—guess again.

It’s business as usual, head coach Sean McDermott said Sunday before the Bills took the field for practice.

“You guys get the gist by now, right?” McDermott answered, when asked about his quarterback plans this week. “We’ll take it one day at a time. You’ll see the rotation out there today, you’ll see Josh (Allen) working with different groups, the way he did before. It’s a great competition. All three of them played well the other night. We like the progression of what they’ve done since the spring.”

Can't they carry all 4 of those backs anyway??

You've got McCoy and DiMarco (FB) as locks. If Taiwan Jones makes it for special teams purposes, then that makes 3 backs, and I'm not sure you want to carry more than 5. Especially considering you're probably carrying 3 QB, so if you go with 6 RB/FB then you've got to really cut elsewhere.

Ford can go on the practice squad. So that leaves Ivory, Cadet, and Murphy for two spots IMO.

Bills QB rotation continues Sunday; Allen's reps increase

SAL CAPACCIO - AUGUST 12, 2018 - 8:57 PM

There were a couple different developments in the Bills’ quarterback situation here at practice Sunday afternoon.

First, rookie Josh Allen saw some first-team reps again for the first time in over a week in 11-on-11 action. He also worked in quite a bit with the second unit, usually rotating with Nathan Peterman, who saw most of the first-team reps throughout the practice.

Then, late in practice, A.J. McCarron appeared to injure his lower right leg. It was unclear exactly what happened to the QB, but after a play he started limping then immediately walked towards trainers who had him lay on his back while they examined him. After getting up, McCarron sat out the next several minutes, but then only took part in a couple plays before heading over to see trainers again.

After a solid performance by all three QBs turned in during the team’s first preseason game Thursday night against the Carolina Panthers, head coach Sean McDermott declined to say who would start the Friday’s game at the Cleveland Browns, only to say the team will continue with their rotation.

3 things to know from Day 13 at Bills camp

1. SUNDAY FOR YOU, WORK DAY FOR BILLS PLAYERS
Just three days removed from their first preseason game, the Bills got back to work with a vengeance Sunday at St. John Fisher. And their intense work day ended with live tackling in a short yardage/goal line period at camp.

“It’s good work for us to come in and bang each other up,” RB Marcus Murphy said after practice. “Get used to lowering our pads and getting it in the end zone is the most important thing there is. You want to put up points.”

2. CROOM MOVING UP?
Second-year tight end Jason Croom has made himself noticed through the first three weeks of training camp. And he made his mark last Thursday in the first preseason game, with a 22-yard catch from Josh Allen.

Croom spent last year on Buffalo’s practice squad after signing on as an undrafted free agent. But he’s getting some attention. He actually began to get attention with his strong work ethic during the offseason.

3. MURPHY GETTING MORE WORK
How’d you like to try to make the Bills roster at running back? At the top of the depth chart it’s LeSean McCoy. Then it’s eight-year veteran Chris Ivory, just three years removed from a 1,000-yard rushing season and a Pro Bowl berth.

ReFocused, NFL Preseason Week 1: Carolina Panthers 28, Buffalo Bills 23 | PFF News & Analysis | Pro Football Focus

FINAL SCORE

Carolina Panthers 28, Buffalo Bills 23

ANALYST TAKEAWAYS

Nathan Peterman looked far more cool and collected in his first drive of the game than he ever did in a Bills uniform as a rookie. He was surgical in the Bills first two drives and didn’t throw a single off-target pass. On the other hand, Josh Allen may not have always been on target, but it was always coming in hot. He threw multiple passes that traveled 60-plus yards in the air although none were completed.

In his debut, his legs were more impressive than his arm.

Rookie Tremaine Edmunds was largely quiet in his Bills debut on defense, finishing the day with only one tackle. But their third-round selection Harrison Phillips had a nice day with two tackles and a sack of Panthers backup Garrett Gilbert.

The Bills should be pleased and hopeful that one of their backup pass-rushers will be able to make an impact this season, with defensive ends Eddie Yarbrough, Mike Love and Ryan Russell harassing the Panthers’ backfield all day. Former first-round pick Shaq Lawson had less of an impact against the pass, but was solid against the run today.

KEY TO THE GAME

Buffalo: You want to see your starting quarterback look good in preseason – especially after last year – and Peterman did just that. He led two succesful drives and even though the stat sheet says he threw an interception, we all know it wasn’t his fault.

I wasnt counting Jones - just assumed he wouldn't make the cut.

How many WRs do they carry?? with the logjam do they carry one extra guy?

Allen is becoming an easy guy to root for too. Hope they don't rush him & I still don't like giving up so much to get him - but he is a guy you want to see do well unlike Rosen or Mayfield.

Zay Jones was cleared for contact, and the Bills' WR was in a feisty mood

ORCHARD PARK – Zay Jones took off the red no contact jersey and was a full participant in practice for the first time at St. John Fisher College Monday morning.

And it didn’t take long for the contact to get serious for the second-year wide receiver. About two-thirds of the way through a closed-to-the-public session, Jones and safety Micah Hyde got into a scuffle in the middle of the field in the deep secondary.

What was odd is that it looked like a rather innocuous play at first and the two were jawing back and forth as they were walking back to their respective huddles, but then it escalated and they were rolling around the ground throwing punches.

Jones, in perhaps the most monotoned, uninteresting media session he’s ever conducted because normally he’s quite engaging, would only say of the fight,
“Football.”

Surely it isn't this normal to have so many fights day after day. Granted I've not been into the NFL for that long (this will be my 4th season) & I never follow any other teams camps... But to have this many is it potentially a problem? Some issues deep lying? Or just guys who want to win??

Have there been a lot this year? I honestly haven't followed camp that closely.
And some scuffles aren't uncommon. Guys get hyped up, work hard, in many cases you have guys trying to make the team or prove themselves as capable (as is the case with Jones). So it is pretty easy for tempers/emotions to flare.

Joe B: 7 observations from 2018 Buffalo Bills training camp - Day 14

(WKBW) - The Buffalo Bills have only two days of training camp remaining, which means the Bills are closing in on the halfway point of the preseason. On Monday, we saw the confirmation of all the changes we witnessed during practice on Sunday by seeing similar things happen once more.

The big draw is what happened at quarterback, and what could happen if things follow the present track.

What stood out on Day 14? Seven observations from the day of work:

1) Josh Allen moves up
2) Trent Murphy injured again
3) Robert Foster has a bounce-back day
4) Bills continue to push Milano
5) Some movement at running back
6) Wyatt Teller continues to improve
7) More changes with the cornerback depth chart

Day 14 MVP: WR Robert Foster

- After a rough camp, Foster had to feel great about all the plays he made on Monday. He looked like the same player we saw in the spring practices.

Day 14 LVP: DE Trent Murphy

- He looked hampered by his injury and not able to make any counter moves in one-on-ones, and then had to sit out the rest of the practice with an injury. It's not all his fault, because it looked like he didn't have full trust in the injury just yet. The Bills need to focus on getting him healthy by early September above all else.

3 things to know from Day 14 at Bills camp

1 – Josh Allen practices with the second unit
Throughout training camp, head coach Sean McDermott and his staff have used a quarterback rotation in which each quarterback would see time with different groups. However, on day 14 of camp, a switch was made. Josh Allen spent the entire practice with the second team offense, marking the first practice in which the Bills have used this defined quarterback setup.

2 – Zay Jones returns to full contact
For the first week and a half of training camp, wide receiver Zay Jones was first on the non-football injury list and then practicing with a red non-contact uniform. However, Jones took the field today to participate in his first full contact practice. While practices do not always hold the same level of physicality as live games, it was a relief for Jones to get back into the full swing of things.

3 – Bills gain defensive line help
In Thursday’s contest with the Carolina Panthers, Bills defensive tackle Star Lotulelei injured his back against his former team. The injury was not considered serious, and Lotulelei missed just two practice sessions before returning today.

From the Athletic - Matthew Fairburn's Day 14 Camp Report:

Buffalo Bills practice observations: Is Josh Allen moving up...

PITTSFORD, N.Y. — Throughout training camp, Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott has evaded the inevitable questions about the quarterback competition and how reps will be divided by saying, “We’ll stick with the rotation.”

That rotation has normally included Nathan Peterman and AJ McCarron switching off with the first and second-team offenses. On Monday, that changed, as the rookie worked exclusively with the second-team offense. After Allen spent most of his time with the third-team offense early in camp, the move was notable.

Allen didn’t disappoint, either. He finished 7-10 passing and could have had an even bigger day if he connected with Rod Streater on a deep pass during the hurry-up drill at the end of practice. One of Allen’s best throws of the day came on a deep sideline pass to Corey Coleman during 7-on-7 work.
