Pretty sure the Lightning have ZERO interest
That would be correct.
Pretty sure the Lightning have ZERO interest
so the rangers retain 50% of shatty, to take on the 5.8 mil of a guy that wont hit 30pts for the 4th straight year?
I think the rangers would need a lot more incentive to bail the lightning out
Shattenkirk @ 50% for Callahan, Taylor Raddysh
rangers get a good prospect, tampa gets a Dman at a reduced price and 3 mil cap space
I mean it wasn't a Tampa fan that made the offer in this thread, so, keep on keeping on I guess.
Non Tampa fan: How about this deal
HF: LUL TAMPA FANS ARE SO DELUSIONAL THAT'S A TERRIBLE OFFER WHY DO TAMPA FANS THINK THEY CAN TAKE EVERYONE'S PLAYERS FOR NOTHING
Tampa fans: That wasn't one of our fans
HF: LUL STUPID TAMPA FANS111!!!1!!!1!!
I'd love to get this guy, but don't really think he fits the TB mold, TBH.If Tampa are looking for a RH Dman Shatts is not the answer , IMO McQuaid would be a better option , cheap and tough as nails . You guys can have him for a 3rd .
they have zero interest in rolling out
Hedman-Stralman
McDonagh-Shattenkirk
Coburn-Sergachev
*Girardi
AND gaining 3 mil in cap space?
I call BS. they would do that all day. Callahan is a 6 mil fringe 3rd liner
Callahan & Sergashev to Buffalo for Ristolainen.
LMAO at “bail the Lightning out”. Between positional need and years of wasted cap Shattenkirk has significantly less value to us than Callahan.
Callahan has the same amount of Points as Shattenkirk(Who is an offensive defenseman), with Callahan playing less games , no PP time , and like half the amount of ice time. Makes less than Shattenkirk, less years on his contract. Callahan also is still very good on the PK, where Shattenkirk doesn’t really kill penalties, so there’s that also. You are actually hurting your team by making this move.
As long as his name remains Sergashev, sure.Callahan & Sergashev to Buffalo for Ristolainen.
Please don’t make me dislike Sabres fans.
As long as his name remains Sergashev, sure.
Isn't that a fair trade? :/
Floor will be good #2d, elite 1D potential.Where do you see Sergash...SergaChev leveling out?
#2 defenceman?
Who's contract is shorter. That is the big point here which people are avoiding mostly because you know it makes logical sense.
As a Ranger fan, I have no problem keeping Shattenkirk. In fact, moving Shattenkirk for Callahan would only help Tampa win and if Tampa wins, the Rangers get that first round pick. So we have a vesting interest in bettering the Lightning.
I’m avoiding the fact that Callahan has one less year on his deal as much as you’re avoiding the facts that..
- Callahan is often injured
- Callahan He’s about to turn 34 as Shattenkirk just turned 30.
- In comparison to Shattenkirk, who is a top-4 defender that’s been hurt on a dumpster fire, Callahan is a vastly overpaid 4th liner who couldn’t even keep a spot on the power play.
- Callahan has little to no chance of ever regaining his form from 2015 and before.
- Shattenkirk has a far greater chance of regaining form and putting up major points again with another team and would be a much better option as a RH shot on Tampa’s power play than Stralman or McDonagh.
- Callahan is a ghost offensively come playoff time. Trust me when I say I’ve seen that act many times before.
- Subtracting Shattenkirk for Callahan would help Tampa immensely come playoff time.
All of that is meaningless when you consider that
- we have absolutely zero need for another RD this season
- we have absolutely zero need for another offensive defenseman, especially a defensively-challenged one
- Callahan’s cap hit expires when we need it to while Shattenkirk’s extra year would cost us at least one of our young core players.
Stop trying to force this trade on a fanbase that clearly has no interest in it. This is a HARD PASS from the Lightning’s perspective.

I’m not trying to force anything, that’s why I’ve said I’m more than happy to keep Shattenkirk.
None of it is meaningless. You believe it is. Callahan is a joke at this point and if he could have been rid of already, he would have. Stop trying to play him up as anything more than the most overpaid player in the league.
That’s all.

Callahan is often injured: We've been keeping him fresh this year. So far so good.
Callahan is a vastly overpaid 4th liner who couldn’t even keep a spot on the power play: Hes more valuable on the PK. Hes been rotated out of the lineup to keep him fresh for playoffs.
Shattenkirk has a far greater chance of regaining form and putting up major points again with another team and would be a much better option as a RH shot on Tampa’s power play than Stralman or McDonagh: Neither is on our PP. Not a slam dunk he would be on our #1 PP. Already crowded as it is and is top in league.
Callahan is a ghost offensively come playoff time. Trust me when I say I’ve seen that act many times before: Offensively yes but we dont need him for offense right now. He has good value to us on the PK. I also love the way he plays in playoffs. Hard to find a harder worker than him.
Subtracting Shattenkirk for Callahan would help Tampa immensely come playoff time: Honestly I dont think it does. I think next offseason would be bigger help than now. We just dont really have room for a PP specialist on our current roster.
So the fact that we have no need or room for and can’t afford your player doesn’t outweigh all other factors when discussing whether or not we should trade for him? If you were GM of the Rangers they would suck even more than they already do.
I never said you should trade for him, maybe you should learn how to read before throwing around insults like that. Again, that’s why I said I’m more than happy to keep Shattenkirk and in response to another poster, I don’t see him as a fit.
But hey, I’d suck taking over for Gorton just as much as you’d suck teaching a reading class, so we’re all good, right?
Callahan is a solid fourth line and PK defensive forward who is drastically overpaid for that role - nothing more, nothing less. Nobody is trying to play him up. You on the other hand are vastly overrating Shattenkirk’s value with both complete misinformation (neither McDonagh nor Stralman plays on our PP and Callahan has played more games since the start of the 2017-18 season than Shattenkirk) and biased wishful thinking (that Callahan will never improve but that all of Shattenkirk’s many faults will somehow magically reverse themselves on another team.) At least we recognize that at his current salary Callahan has negative value; it’s a shame that you can’t do the same with Shatty.
