It's not hurting the team if the goal is to build a contender, not win now.
And Hextall's refusal to trade ANY assets for veterans (other than Mrazek and that was desperation) is strong evidence.
In that case, as long as he thinks Hakstol is doing a good job of developing young players the way he wants (look at his draft picks, emphasis on hockey IQ and two way play, not pure offensive skills) he'll keep him around.
When Hextall decides this team is ready to win NOW, you'll know:
1) Hakstol will have to win or else, i.e., advance in the playoffs.
2) Hextall will start trading draft picks and second tier prospects to fill holes
I said before the season I think that year is 2019-20. Still believe that.
This is a transition season, only thing that will get Hakstol fired is a collapse.
