That's what eliteprospects.com tells me, but I last played against Woodbury while he was still a toddler, so, I can't confirm beyond that.

Somebody else around here may have played with him or know his family.
Yes, Menell played his youth hockey in the Woodbury system. Pretty sure he was a part of their Bantam state championship team.

Still Wild to me that more people on this forum aren't super excited about Mennell.

I am excited. He’s one of my favorite prospects. Perennial underdog and he plays a quiet, efficient game

I got to watch the baby wild whenever they would play the admirals in milwaukee and Mennell was always one of the best players on the ice for both teams imo (these games were during his first two years on the wild not this most current one).

I fully anticipate the Kraken to pick Menell.

We have to figure out out to protect Menell.

Even if it means trading Dumba for slightly less value.

We have to be realistic about Dumbas asking price and the cost of protecting him when we have someone who can take his place tomorrow at a cheaper price.

We dont need to trade dumba. We have all the time in the world now unless Rossi shows hell need a couple years to develop. Also kraken is gonna take soucy, greenway or ek depending on who we protect.

What evidence do you have that suggests Menell can replace Dumba?

The same evidence that gives you the notion that Kaprizov will succeed in the NHL. Success in other leagues.
Player A:
Olympic Champion
Gagarin Cup Champion
5x KHL All Star
2x KHL Best Sniper
Widely regarded as the best player in the world not in the NHL
23 years old

Player B:
1x AHL All Star
Nobody knows who this guy is
23 years old

I'll let you guess which is which.

He's got worse numbers than Maxim Noreau at the same age. (Two 50 point seasons, 2 time all star, 2 time first team all AHL).

We all know how that ended up.

He's a fine prospect, and hopefully will become something. But it's probably time to pump the breaks a bit

I expect a scouting position or at least a forum title here in a season or two.

I will be distributing crow like a jail house vending machine distributes honey buns.

Enough with pumping up Mennel it’s getting ridiculous.

There is ZERO CHANCE Seattle takes an AHL player period.

Mennel is a good AHL player but so was Ethan Prow and Adam Clendening. Clendening is bigger, stronger, and better defensively etc and was a better prospect at the same age. He’s the best comparison to Mennel in my opinion.

Do you watch any KHL hockey at all?

Menell is like found money. I do believe he's got NHL-ability, but still unclear as to what his ceiling is.

Not this season but prior seasons.

It’s very comparable to the AHL.
1 or 2 lines strong and not much depth. That’s my opinion.

I have spoken to players that have played in KHL, AHL, SHL and liga. Most have feel the same comparison as I do. There’s always a few guys in each league that acceptions can be made for.

1 thing for sure that all have stated is that there’s much more time and space in Euro leagues than AHL. Probably due to the larger ice surface and styles of play

There's a certain place Menell has to get to when it might make sense to start weighing the Dumba vs. Menell argument, but he's not there yet. Without the COVID disruption, it could've been as soon as next offseason.

Yeah Menell going to the KHL may of been a blessing. The jury is still out if he could be a top 4D. He probably sits well in a top 6D to at worse 7D. With him not playing in the NHL seattle might be more hesitant to pick a guy that has a handful of NHL games vs a season if Covid never happened.

Truth is we don't know how good Menell is. There are many players who excel in the KHL, yet can't hold a job in the NHL. I do think it is likely that he can play at least a 3rd pairing/PP specialist role on a NHL team, but we know for sure that he won't get a chance to play NHL this season.

I hope we get a chance to see him next season.

Mennell is NOT better than 6 of our 7 NHL defensemen, or he wouldnt be in the KHL would he? that basically answers your question as to why he wont be picked, and why he cannot in fact replace dumba.

Mennell being in the KHL has nothing to do with his ability, the likelyhood of him playing in the NHL this year, or Menell vs Dumba.

It 100% has to do with the uncertanty of the AHL, the NHL and a 23 year old that got minimal signing bonuses as an undrafted player needing a paycheck. He can't afford to be on the outside looking in when the game of music chairs stops and teams are trying to find where they will play.

Menell is going to be the guy that leads this team to 10 cup wins and the piece we build our dynasty around.

(Lol)

Actually, playing in the KHL does in fact have to do with everything you just argued against. Because it is the 1 league there isnt an opt out of. If he was NHL caliber currently or had a chance to crack the NHL roster he wouldve played in any of the other countless leagues that were also playing that he couldve opted out of to join camp.
