Maybe he makes Dunn expendable, or maybe Krug gets exposed and taken in the expansion draft because he is expendable and they want to spend the money elsewhere, but I don't see a situation where they move on from both because of Walman. If Walman claims a full time spot next season and neither Krug or Dunn are around, I just about guarantee that it is because Krug's money was spent on another #2/#3 level left shot defenseman to pair with Parayko and Walman takes on Dunn's role as a (somewhat) sheltered bottom 6 PP specialist.Walman will make Krug and Dunn expendable.
Well if we can afford to give away free franchise dmen. The Blues defense situation re: the expansion draft is so juicy; you have to wonder how they're going to avoid giving away a top-4 defenseman for free.
I'm trying to wrap my head around this suggestion but just don't see any reason why Seattle would be willing to give up assets. Maybe if they LOVED Dunn and thought we might protect him? I don't see it personally, the kraken will have plenty of options to fill out their roster without having to give up assets for players.Just a thought, Dunn to Kraken for draft picks?
Dunn++ to Calgary for Hanifin or a top-4 LHD upgrade. Everyone keeps talking about how bare our prospect pool is (since so many have graduated, mind you), but the thing is, our window to win is going to require selling futures for players that can play now. We shouldn't be worried about our prospects. It's not like we're Pittsburgh with their abysmal farm, and we definitely need players NOW, not 4 years from now.Just a thought, Dunn to Kraken for draft picks?
I love Hanafin, and I think he is precisely what we need, but apparently Darryl Sutter loves him too. He's not leaving Calgary any time soon.Dunn++ to Calgary for Hanifin or a top-4 LHD upgrade. Back to the Laine discussion.
So initial question was do you trade Laine for Schenn?
Most seemed to feel that Laine isn't worth the ask or his next contact. This may well be true - but he is 24..... As pure goal scorer as there is in the league, beyond Matthews and McD, I would put him in the top 5. If we gave up on everyone who had a bad year, we wouldn't have any players.
I do feel it is a bit of a risk, but contact wise, I would rather have Laine at Schenn contact then Schenn. Laine is a sniper, pure and simple. And as for Columbus, none of the players have been great this year. There is lot of focus on Laine, but.. he is just part of the issue. Tort should be done there.
Honestly, I don't lean either way, but I thought it would be a fun discussion. If Laine bounces back next year, which I expect him to do, then he has more value then Schenn. This is a bit buying low and taking a risky asset. Obviously if the LA stuff is true, you don't waste your time, but I also don't believe stuff posted on the internet.
I think he is a better version of Hoffman and would mesh well with Thomas.
Absolutely not. Hoffman puts more effort into defense than Laine does.
So your stance is your prefer Hoffman once Laine going forward? And he puts more effort into defense. I don’t see it. Hoffman is great on the PP, but I am not sure he is any better then Laine defensively.
I think Laine stunk it up this year, but he is 7 years younger and I expect him to bounce back.
Laine comes off as a prima donna. He'll demand massive money and then be lazy and throw fits if he doesn't play with who he wants. He did it to the Jets and he'll do it again.
Laine gonna cost much more than Schenn. I like Laine and think he gets bad rap, but don’t think I deal Schenn for him all things considered.Back to the Laine discussion.

dunno that Laine would like playing for Berube

the dickey is always a red flag, say no to turtleneck patIf Laine isn't a red flag, then what is, exactly? No to Laine.
I think part of that is that Hoffman's role on his past 2 teams since he broke into the league full time in 2014-15 (6 seasons) was largely to be an offensive machine. Both Florida and Ottawa had the other lines carrying the defensive assignments.
I think this is the first year in the NHL he's been tasked with playing a two way game at the age of 31... It stands to reason he's going to show better as the season progresses.
Blues should consider a hard look at getting Eichel
Sanford and a few picks should be enough to do it, it worked once it will work again.
