I think that doing that next season would land them into purgatory for the next 5 years and they will be tearing it down and rebuilding after that.
That's a reactionary opinion.
It pretends that
1) Seider won't get better.
2) Raymond won't get better.
3) None of the other Wings draft picks will be helpful.
This is Yzerman's 4th draft in the top 10.
By the way, even this "purgatory" place - we've seen teams emerge from purgatory into competitors.
So what if we don't become the next Tampa.
RIght now, I'd settle for what the LA Kings are doing.
Maybe next year we'd not qualify. Maybe we would.
Either way, it's not like you don't still have draft picks to continue building.
There's this weird binary stance some fans have...
1) You're either trading picks to compete
OR
2) You're trading assets for picks.
Lots of teams live in between and can turn 13th to 22nd overall picks into useful or maybe even core players.
