I don't see this as giving him the benefit of the doubt; it reads more like baseless speculation about his long term health. I'd give it a rest.
Wheeler will either come around, as he has in previous seasons, or he won't. If he realizes he has aged out, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he reaches an agreement with the club to retire or be bought out. He already holds a number of club records and if he stays healthy through the season and a playoff run will eclipse Bryan Little as the all time leader in games played.
His future is with the Jets in some capacity, so he is not going to be traded, period. Money is more important to Wheeler than it was to Buff, but, at this stage, legacy is the most important factor for both Wheeler and TNSE. (It wasn't for Buff, in case you were wondering.)
All this is moot until seasons end, however. Until then, I'd suggest a hold on rumours about his health and unrealistic hopes that he will be traded.
