Sabres could plan no using Pacioretty for a single year to change the room. Pacioretty is a captain, and that could be worth something to management in helping the kids along. After one year, flip him at the deadline for a 1st +.
Sabres could end up getting a return similar to what Duchene netted the Avs.
Say it were Poehling, Pacioretty and a 2nd from Montreal, and the Sabres flipped Pacioretty for a 1st and a good prospect at the deadline it would end up being ROR for a 1st, a 2nd, Poehling and another top prospect. That's not so bad.

Nothing more depressing than when you deliver a good zinger and no one acknowledges it. I only have so material.

I think it's more to do with the sad fact that GMBargainBin brought these guys in to either play centre or for a centre. It's quite sad that the joke is clear to everyone but him.

Wait, ROR is still a 60pt center right? Did I miss something?
Yes, a 60 point centre who is also one of the best defensive C's in the league.

Bergeron has also been a ~60 point player for a good chunk of his career. That hasn't stopped people being right in calling him a top 5 C.

Lol... I'll try and dumb it down for you.... see, as players get older, all people really, their physical abilities begin to deminish. A hockey player, for example, who in his mid 20s was a 30 goal scorer will begin to slow and score less often as he reaches the age of 30 and beyond. It's a natural part of life, and nothing to be feared as it happens to us all. But it's also not something you pay top assets to aquire. There... feel better Timmy?

So this all happens in one year? And this sums up your analogy?
2010-11 - 31 goal average
2011-12 - 34 goal average
2012-13 - 28 goal average
2013-14 - 44 goal average
2014-15 - 37 goal average
2015-16 - 30 goal average
2016-17 - 35 goal average
2017-18 and beyond garbage

K thanks, make sense to me now. Now I'll go tell everyone in the Kessel thread that he'll have a bad year last year.

TIL the going rate for a 60 point, 27-year old 2C who's overpaid by $2,000,000 and has lost his passion to play hockey is worth #3 overall and Max Pacioretty.

ROR isn't overpaid by 2 million lol.

If Evander Kane is making 7 mil...ROR at 7.5 and with a rising cap is more than fine...

My god man... the sabres can't trade for his past... all they get is his FUTURE.... maybe as little as one year. Or maybe as a player in decline on a bad contract. Either way... no thanks.

I really don't get it and I really doubt they will push for picks...

Buffalo is in win now mode next season, they can't just take pick and wait 3-4 years to train them until they are solid NHL players.
The team is built around Jack and they can't afford to lose Jack peak performance when he will hit 22-24. They need to get their core around jack ( dahlin will be NHL ready next year) but those 4x 2rd won't be nhl ready for 3 years... makes no sense for them to pursue picks.
This might be one of the worst Sabres takes I've read in a long time.

A 60 point #2C is among the best 2C's in the league, and not overpaid at 7.5 million unless he starts to regress soon. You're reaching on suggesting that he has lost his passion as well. What is that based off of? One interview where he expressed how disappointed he was this season? That doesn't mean he has lost his passion.

That said, I don't think Bergevin trades #3 for him either. If they draft Kotkaniemi and manage to trade for O'Reilly, they have added two decent centres, one for today, and one for the future. Doesn't solve their #1C problem immediately, but at least its a move in the right direction, which is a change of pace for Bergevin.

funny because that is what analysts said on the radio this morning.

Your big window is in 2-3 years. not in 5. There is not logic in taking picks again after 10 years of getting pick. One year or an other you will need to perform, and that is next year with Dahlin and Jack.

regarding ROR, with buffalo being a perrenial basement team and him coming for a basement team, maybe ROR asked to be moved? H'es as competitive as they come and it sounds like hes' given up hope. Could be the reason his name is out there. Another reason is that they really want to give eichel some top wingers. That said, if he's really out there on the market I'd think there would be a lot of interest.

Edit, would both teams really trade within the division like this? Seems odd to me.
