Don't do it Bergevin
Keep the prospects and picks and suck again next year
Draft centers for God sake
ROR will not make this team a SC contender
This post I sort of agree with, but MTL's path forward is anything but clear with the moves they have made. IMO, next year is the year when you draft a C. 2019 will have a ton of them. This is the year when you take the BPA.

I should be happy we are talking to Bergevin.... but Botterill scares me. I don't have a read on him.

Ohh please, the hold value but not enough to get him alone as something else with one or two of them would be required.

But Montreal doesn't have anything to offer, I'm ignoring the 3rd overall here.

Pac for ROR should be hell no from Buffalo, Pac+2nd for ROR should still be hell no from Buffalo.

This is your argument? Quite possibly the worst rebuttal in this thread.
Lol... I'll try and dumb it down for you.... see, as players get older, all people really, their physical abilities begin to deminish. A hockey player, for example, who in his mid 20s was a 30 goal scorer will begin to slow and score less often as he reaches the age of 30 and beyond. It's a natural part of life, and nothing to be feared as it happens to us all. But it's also not something you pay top assets to aquire. There... feel better Timmy?

If the 3rd overall isn’t involved Montreal is going to lose something solid off the roster whether it’s

Buf - Ryan O’Rielly

Mtl - Pacioretty, Poehling, Mtls 2nd rd pick 2018

This would be solid value for both teams in my mind. I’m sure Gallagher makes more sense for Buffalo due to his age but I’m not sure Montreal would go for it.

This is surely an over-payment IMO

Risto is definitely available in the right deal. Anybody on the Sabres outside of Eichel, Mittlestadt, and 1OA are on the table.
As is should be. The team has been terrible for years and Botteril should exhaust all options and consider all moves outside of those 3 pieces.

I'm curious to see what happens. Obviously, Bergevin is on the ropes and needs to save his skin. With other teams expressing interest in ROR, the price goes up. Compound that with Bergevin's seemingly half-witted deals.... this could be a big overpayment.

ROR with a deal that includes 2018 #3 and more... I'm listening.

Wait, ROR is still a 60pt center right? Did I miss something?
Yeah, I'm looking at this thread thinking that too. How realistic would it be to think that the #3 overall pick some day becomes better than ROR? It would be nice, of course. But by no means assured. And certainly not going to happen any time soon. ROR has a lot of good years left on his deal too. The take that trading the #3 is too much for ROR puzzles me.

In a vacuum, I'd be all over that if I needed a top-2 C on my team. Now, maybe it doesn't fit for the Habs if they are more serious about plunging into a long-term rebuild, I don't know. Teams looking for more immediate success surely shouldn't value that pick above a really good player like ROR, anyway.

I really don't get it and I really doubt they will push for picks...

Buffalo is in win now mode next season, they can't just take pick and wait 3-4 years to train them until they are solid NHL players.
The team is built around Jack and they can't afford to lose Jack peak performance when he will hit 22-24. They need to get their core around jack ( dahlin will be NHL ready next year) but those 4x 2rd won't be nhl ready for 3 years... makes no sense for them to pursue picks.

I get what you're saying, but you can't have a team of all young players. Who will be there to reel them in when they're on the road? Who will be the experienced veteran to teach them how to be a pro?

Yes, Pacioretty has proved to be an excellent leader. I hope he can instill his wisdom onto Eichel so he can become a good pro.
