Needs to retire a Bruin. He is the epitome of what this team stands for. Heart, grit, determination, honor. He's a true class act and I'm proud to root for him.

This is a fantastic deal, great to hear. Guy is the heart and soul of this team; as long as he is here, we will be contenders.

Random question: Is there any precedent for a player giving up the C before he leaves the team? I love Chara and all, but I've always felt Bergy was the true captain. Pipe dream, but I'd love to see Bergy get the C at the beginning of this new contract as a way of saying, "this is your team now".

When do the new CBA terms begin? I thought one of the things that came out of the lockout was 5 year limits for long term contracts. So if that has not yet kicked in then the reason for 8 year contracts to Rask and Bergeron could be that they wanted the 8 years before the 5 year limit kicks in.

No, eight years is the limit for your own FA under the new CBA (seven if you're signing another team's FA, like Horton to CBJ), to halt the 15-year deals created to minimize the cap hit.

Bergeron will be the captain when Chara retires. I can't see your scenario happening, partly because I can't imagine Bergeron going along with it.

Is it possible to change captaincy without insulting the current captain? Say in 3 years, Bergy should be captain. How can you make it not awkward considering Z has 5 yrs left on his deal. I want Bergeron captain as soon as possible

I wouldn't be upset at all if they change the team name to the Boston Bergerons

Bergeron! Bergeron!

Pretty excited to see this guy in black and gold for the next 9 years.

Never had any doubts but nice to see it confirmed.

Class act.

To bad we'll be seeing him for likely 3 years and then *****ing about his cap hit while he eats yogurt and lives in a dark room for the last 5.

Hope I'm wrong but it scares me big time. Doubt this contract is insurable and really doubt Jacobs gives the green light to spend another 6.5 over the cap when it does happen.

Why??? Things are perfectly fine the way they are, pretty sure Bergeron is having absolutely no issues sleeping at night because he feels the need or has the ego that he HAS to wear the C

He`d play and conduct himself, and has, the exact same if he wasn`t wearing a letter

Didn't even need to see the cap hit, cuz we all knew it would be in the 6 range. Pay the man his money and enjoy watching him play for the next 9 years. Incredible.

I think a more appropriate post might have been you having concerns over some concussion issues previously rather than the necessity to yakk about eating yogurt and living in a dark room but you keep on goin:shakehead

How about just enjoying the moment and being happy for Bergy and the B`s??? Too much to ask? It would have been a bloody insult to offer him a 4 year package....some just never happy and far too concerned about the finances/insurance which, last I checked, affects nobody here directly unless I am mistaken??

Me thinks I`ll just trust Chia and his troops....too much worry/concern over things we have absolutely no control over, and for what is, in the grand scheme of things both a game, and not our money

Why not just be happy that we aren`t watching a parade of players in contract squabbles or having to listen to them walk and after it`s said it was over a half million???

You "appear" to be a young fan, you may not recall a day not so long ago where the above was the norm

ODATT is right. The Sinden days saw every good player that was here in a contract fight at least once in their careers. It usually ended up with the player being shipped out for a cheaper alternative. I love that we now have stable management that will reward players.

My favourite contract dispute that sinden had was when he was told by Joe Juneau agent that if he does not get his contract he would be going to Swizterland to play. Sinden relply was " He better learn to yoddle" Ah good old drunk Harry!

Great news, this guy was born to be a Bruin, if Chara ever retires he is the next captain.
