Post-season comments from GM MCG: He's proud of the year the Devils had and slowly getting back to the level of the Devils from the great years. Subban's performance was praised as a young goalie in his first starting job in the NHL and believe he'll get better each year. Adam Henrique will not return to the New Jersey Devils, and the core will all be locked up -- cost is not an issue.

With a really weak FA pool and a lot of players fighting for spots, the Devils decided they didn't need to sign anyone on July 1.

Well, changed my mind on who I am doing for my next GM Mode, Arizona is making so many desperation signings/moves so I want to do them now hahaha, will be posting my 1st update for this new GM Mode probably on July 5th, when most of the big signings are done, I am putting all the FA's and people traded on their new teams, even created the guys who came back from the KHL(Burmistrov, Tihkonov) so yeah, will skim through the 1st season in my 1st post most likely since I want to get up to date to the real life timeline.

BREAKING NEWS: BOBBY RYAN TRADED TO THE CAROLINA HURRICANES

Ottawa Sends
-Bobby Ryan 89oa First Line RW SNP 31yo (4 years left at 7.25M)
-Kovalchuk (Former 59th overall pick)
-3rd Round Draft Picks in 2020 and 2021

For
-Carolina's 2019 First Round Draft Pick (Projected High)
-Alex Nedeljkovic (84oa Backup HYB Goalie, 22yo 4G*, picked 37th in 2014)

Alex Nedeljkovic is seen as one of the top young goalie prospects, and pro scouts label him as a can't miss future starter who has a small chance to exceed his potential and become an elite goalie.

With Cam Ward and Anthony Khudobin still under contract, Carolina is set at an NHL level for goalies. They have both Zack Bowman and former 1st overall pick Evan Fitzpatrick in their prospect pool making Nedeljkovic an expendable asset.

Senators management have soured on Ty Edmonds. They aren't giving up on him, and he has been exceptional in the AHL, but the expectation was that he'd come to training camp prepared to play in the NHL and backup Vezina winner Robin Lehner. Edmonds made no progress from last year, which sparked worries that with Lehner becoming a UFA in 3 seasons, putting all their eggs in Edmonds basket may end up burning them as he won't be ready to take over by the time Lehner's contract is up.

The Senators want to find out whether Robin Lehner is Dominik Hasek or Patrick Lalime.....Lehner put up unreal numbers last year, but he was playing behind an elite Stanley Cup level defense. His regular season numbers prior to last year were unspectacular. Lehner has earned the right to start the season as the number 1 goalie, but there is speculation that by the end of the year, Nedeljkovic could unseat Lehner and steal his spot.

The Senators had to include the equivalent of a 2nd and two 3rd round picks in order to sweeten the pot for Carolina who were putting up their first round pick which last year was a top 5 pick. Both teams are taking a huge gamble. Carolina is gambling that with the acquisition of Bobby Ryan they can finish out of the bottom 5 and put out a competitive hockey product over the next few seasons. Ottawa is gambling on Carolina having another poor year and gifting Ottawa a great draft spot, something the Senators haven't had since they missed the playoffs four seasons ago.
______________________________

FORWARD PREVIEW
2018 is a major transitional year for Ottawa's forward corps. Coming out of training camp, Konecny is expected to graduate to Ottawa's 1st line ahead of veteran Kyle Turris.

With Bobby Ryan traded, power forward Brett Ritchie will be given an opportunity to play in the top six on a permanent basis.

Ottawa made a minor trade sending fourth liner Ryan Dzingel to the Ducks in exchange for LW veteran grinder Maxime Talbot. The veteran Talbot has a year left on a 2M deal.

As a pure scorer, there has been talk about trying Daniel Sprong out in the Senators top 6. Sprong scored 26 goals in 58 AHL games last year. He is seen as a boom or bust player, who'll either make it in Ottawa's top 6 or never make the NHL at all as he isn't suited to a bottom 6 role. His hockey sense leaves a lot to be desired, he also has subpar passing/playmaking, but he is a lightning fast skater with an elite shot. If Sprong is placed in Ottawa's top 6, his job would simply be to act as a sniper for Turris to set up.
______________________________

DEFENSE PREVIEW
After being unable to retain Duncan Keith, Ottawa's defense took a huge blow. They are still lead by superstar Erik Karlsson who just signed an 8 year 6.8M contract extension. With Duncan Keith gone, 26 year old Kevin Gravel is expected to play alongside Karlsson on the top pairing.

Marc Methot is beginning to show his age, and will play alongside veteran Cody Ceci on the Senators second pairing.

During the off season, the Senators signed 6'5” college free agent Kolton Dixon (81oa 2.5G* 23yo). Dixon will play on the bottom pairing with Andreas Englund who will graduate from the AHL to the NHL.

Chris Wideman remains as a veteran 7th defenseman.
______________________________
GOALIE PREVIEW
Last season, Robin Lehner had a breakout year. He captured his first ever Vezina trophy, and posted an exceptional .941 save percentage over 16 playoff games. Senators pro scouts are unsure about whether Lehner is an elite goalie, or if last season was an anomaly. Prior to last year, Lehner had a combined .902 save percentage over 43 games while backing up Andrew Hammond.

Ty Edmonds is coming off a very strong AHL campaign where he won the AHL Playoff MVP with the Binghamton Senators. Fully willing to give Edmonds an NHL spot for this upcoming season, Senators pro scouts were baffled by Edmonds lack of progress at training camp.

With Edmonds looking as if his progress had stalled, the Senators made it a top priority to seek out an NHL ready goalie prospect. Ottawa acquired 22 year old Alex Nedeljkovic from the goalie heavy Carolina Hurricanes. Nedeljkovic is expected to backup Lehner, but will have the opportunity to steal the starting job if Lehner fumbles.

Somewhat "spoilers" but I must be a damn fair trader in this game, since it seems like every team I trade with ends up making it to the cup final a year or two after the trade. (Not Carolina, I'm like five seasons ahead).

I've been reading some of these GM modes and they made me want to start doing my own so I made an account here. I want to start one tonight but I'm stuck between Nashville and Columbus. Which one should I do?

Edit: Ill do Nashville

I'm probably going to start up a Rangers GM mode soon. Just wanted to know if anyone would have any problems with me playing it on NHL 14 because my NHL 15 is all scratched up. I will still have updated rosters (including Etem, Stalberg, Raanta, Diaz and every other teams rosters are also updated), so the only difference would be I would start in the 2013-14 season and my first draft would be 2014. Is everybody ok with that?

The Rangers have announced today that GM Glen Sather has retired and the Rangers new GM is Jeff Gorton.

Sather wanted to win a cup in New York before retiring, but after a 2nd round loss in the 2013 playoffs to Boston, Sather decided to call it quits.

Gorton will take over a team that hasn't been to the finals in 20 years, but has an all-star goalie in Henrik Lundqvist, a good scorer in Rick Nash, and a solid number 1 Defenseman in Ryan McDonagh, and a lot of depth at all 3 positions.

Started a new one with Philly. Traded for Wisniewski (RHD) and Nyquist (LW) right off the bat. Sacrificed Del Zotto, as I don't like his physical category, along with Tampa's first round pick and some others including Umberger as a cap dump.

The season started pretty slowly with a 12-12-3 record (superstar difficulty).

From now on, I am playing with injuries off during the regular season. This game is terrible with injuries on.

I don't say that because of good players getting hurt, but it makes it impossible to properly develop players in the AHL. You get a minor injury ever week or two and have to constantly fix your lines, which takes a minute each time, which makes a sim take forever. Up to this point, I've just done assistant coach edits lines: Yes, because it is fastest, and my NHL lines are usually pretty close to what the assistant coach does.

Injuries are put back on during playoffs because I go game by game, and I usually cycle in my healthy scratches for 10-20 games during the season to keep them from regressing.

This game needs depth charts so the CPU can automatically edit the lines as close as possible to your liking when injuries happen.

Yeah, long injuries can ruin development but it's also realistic that way.

It is not that the prospects get injuries. It is that, the AHL lines constantly get reshuffled as a result of injuries in the lineupe, and good prospects get scratched, so instead of your 73oa C you drafted in the first round getting top 6 AHL minutes, he gets scratched for the first few years of his career despite being healthy.

I agree, injuries are more realistic, but I can't seem to find a way around it without making the game tedious and boring by spending an extra 30 minutes constantly editing my AHL lines when I sim.

2014-2015 DALLAS STARS :stars

Jim Nill addressed the media before the first pre-season game, stating that the Dallas Stars are looking to win it, but also know that it takes time. The Dallas Stars goals through this stretch will be to acquire a #1 defenseman and improve in the right wing position, and eventually also getting a younger #2 center. The goaltending situation will also be watched closely as management will make sure that Lehtonen is their guy.

TRADE DEADLINE

With a 27-27-9 record (26-19-5 since start), the Dallas Stars decided to put their older players on the block to see what they could fetch, otherwise, they'd stand pat at the deadline. Surprising reports came out that Alex Goligoski's name was also being thrown out there as the Stars looked to upgrade their D.

SEASON WRAP-UP

FINAL RECORD: 34-34-14 -- 82 PTS

It was a rough start for the Dallas Stars, but the team salvaged it somewhat, posting a 33-26-10 record for the rest of the season after their 1-8-4 start, however, they still missed the playoffs. With a relatively healthy season, Jim Nill addressed the media in his post-season presser, saying that they'll be looking to acquire depth up front and defense. The Stars will look to spread out the scoring next season.
