Tragedy in the NHL
nhl.jpg

Tragedy struck the NHL today, a plane carrying members of the Florida Panthers crashed into another air transport mid flight. There were no survivors. In accordance with the freedom of information act we were able to retrieve the flight plan and passenger manifest. It is confirmed that the plane was carrying the 40 contracted players of the Panthers, their coaching staff, owner Vinny Viola and their management.
Asiana_Airlines_Plane_Crash1.png

A picture on the downed plane above

Commissioner Bettman spoke of the tragedy:"The entire NHL is mourning the loss of 60 great men, all of whom had families, we lost 60 great human beings today. Our condolences go out not only to them, but to their families and the victims on board the other aircraft."

In Viola's will it waa requested that the team be sold and the funds from the sale be given to his family.

The Quebecor entertainment group has purchased the rights to the franchise and has announced that the team will be moved to Quebec immeadiately, they will called the Quebec City Knights and their colours are green and white.
956242-julien-brisebois-bras-droit-steve-696x463.jpg

The Quebecor group has announced that Julien Brisebois will be the team's General Manager.Pierre Dion, CEO of the group and primary Knights owner has named Julien Brisebois as the team's first General Manager. He made the following comments on today's news: "We are deeply saddened by todays tragic events, and offer our condolences to the families of the victims. For quite some time we have pursue a franchise, we had finalized talks to buy the Florida Panthers, the deal was supposed to go through at seasons end, however today's news has sped up the process."
martin-jacques-closeup.jpg

Julien Brisebois first move was to name Jacques Martin intern Head Coach. He stated: "I am grateful to be given this opportunity, however I am deeply saddened by today's events. I am glad that the fans are excited for the return of NHL hockey to Quebec, however a long, dark, cold and painful road is ahead of us as we build from scratch. Their will be many many bumps in the road as we build our club." Martin said he expects the team to struggle mightily this year and asks for patience from the fans.

The NHL does not have a contingency plan for diasters. Due to a lack of transfer agreement with the top European leagues, the Knights were forced to fill out the roster with members of the Italian National squad. The Italian Serie A is well below the caliber of the NHL.

GM Brisebois faces a difficult task as he must now build an organization from scratch, in a city that is French, has tough language laws and for a team that won't win many, if any games at all this year.

Many free agents have stated they will not play in Quebec due to language concerns and the poor quality of the current roster. Pierre Dion has said that the team wants French players but is an equal oppurtunity employer. The Knights will likely be the worst team the NHL has ever seen fielded this year. There is light at the end of the tunnel as the draft this year features generational talents Connor McDavid, Jack Eichel and Quebec born phenom Daniel Gagne.

Brisebois got to work immediately trying to shore up the roster and build a foundation, he signed a trio of veterans:
F Simon Gagne 1yr 750K
D Joni Pitkanen 2yr 4.8M
G Tim Thomas 1 yr 1.5M

He also signed Havard defencemand Kevin Gravel to a 3yr ELC worth 850k a year. He has this to say on his moves: "We needed a few veterans to help the mode in the room, it's going to be a brutal season. Simon will provide a bit of offence of course but he will also bring leadership, Joni will help make Tim's nights slighty easier and he's going to log big minutes as we try to keep those scores down.
tim-thomas-473093.jpg

Tim is a veteran puck stopper, he's going to see a ton of rubber and on most nights he's going to get bombarded but he can keep it close for a good amount of games."

Knights first season a disaster
1638.gif

The Quebec Knights experienced a brutal first season in the NHL, finishing dead last by a landslide, going a woeful 6-69-7 this year, while scoring 87 goals and allowing 438, all NHL records, dubious NHL records. GM Julien Brisebois was optimistic about the season the team had:"After the trade deadline we competed hard, we didn't get blown out. I think we made some progress." Coach Jacques Martin echoed the sentiment: I think we improved as the year went along." Brisebois stated that 8 players from the squad will return to Italy, he says it's unlikely the team fields a whole new roster but did say there will be new faces. He announced that Martin will not be not be returning, Guy Boucher has taken over the reigns as Head Coach.

The team will pick 1st overall in this years draft, where Connor McDavid is expected to go 1st overall. Scouts have said this year's draft could be the best ever and that it is loaded with goalies. The Knights are believed to be interested in acquiring another first round pick and there are rumors that Joni Pitkanen wants out.

Renaud Lavoie has stated that the team is weary about bringing in young players too early due to the poor quality of the roster and the amount of the losing the team is expected to do. He also believes that Quebec born phenom Daniel Gagne will be the team's first pick. Gagne is the consensus #3 however scouts say that he would go #1 in any draft since Crosby, it is also believed by some that he could end up being the best player from this draft. Lavoie believes that it will be too hard for the Knights to pass on a local who could not only help the team but save the franchise. Gagne led the Saint John Sea Dogs to their 2nd memorial cup title this year.
mike-hoffman-2g-2a-6-4-g3-win.jpg

"He's a goal scorer, he lights the lamp. Quebec scored 87 goals this year, he's a local who's going to be hard to pass up. You gotta believe that Brisebois is under pressure to take him, ownership wants fans in the seats and let me tell you that's hard to do if you're a boring team to watch. He scored 75 goals this year with Saint John and that was just the regular season, size is an issue but he scores."-TSN Insider Bob McKenzie

One scout told us:"He's got the makings of a legend, a lot of people will criticize them if he goes first, they'll say it's cause he's french. Let me tell you, it's not. He's the hardest working player I've ever seen, his skating isn't at McDavid's or Eichel's level but he works harder them both combined. He makes plays that you didn't know were possible. He can pick a corner blindfolded, who ever gets him is getting an unreal talent. His size doesn't concern me, I'd take him first.

We were able to get an exclusive interview with Gagne:
James Duthie: Daniel, what does going first overall mean to you ?
Daniel Gagne: It would be the world, its not something i'm expecting. Jack and Connor are great players, and they're ranked above me.
James: You won everything there is to win at the junior level this year, how does it feel ?
Daneil: It's amazing, WJC Gold and a Memorial cup in the same year, I never dreamed this.
James: In an interview you called Quebec an awful team and you said you hate losing, if they take you will you player there ?
Daniel: Absolutely, I do hate losing and Quebec is really bad but there's a challenge there and a chance to do something great there.
James: Last question, can I get tickets to a game ?
Daniel: (Laughs) Yeah of course.

The Knights went forward heavy and most of their picks came from the QMJHL and they selected 4 players from the Saint John Sea Dogs, Renaud Lavoie offers his opinion on why the Knights would do this: They have a Q team in their backyard, you can bet they saw a lot of QMJHL games, Brisebois can watch them himself on a regular basis. We know they liked Gagne and saw him a lot, it's not surprise to me that they took him and then another French player in Beauviller. They will both play in the NHL and that's going to be a very very stong combo. Connor Garland in the 4th round is another guy you have to watch, if he was bigger he would be a 1st round guy. They had trouble scoring goals this year, but that won't be for long. Now they'll need defence.

The Knights are expected to be very active this summer in terms of managing their roster.

______________

A difficult decision, but I decided to keep Provorov with Hershey, even if he's able to play in my TOP 4. WIth this decision, I hope he will not ask for to much $$$ in the offseason.

With Kuznetsov, Alzner and (Provorov) to resign during the summer, Brouwer will maybe be out on the deadline. I've to prepare the Provorov demand.

Up to the trade deadline and we have been cruising along very nicely. Third in the NHL (behind Edmonton and Arizona) with a 39-16-8 record (86 points). The trade for Steen has paid off rather well as our leading scorers are as follows:

Top forwards:
J. Eichel - 63GP, 67 points (19G, 48A)
N. Jensen - 63GP, 52 points (13G, 39A)
J. Sekac - 63GP, 52 points (17G, 35A)
A. Steen - 63GP, 51 points (31G, 20A)
A. Henrique - 63GP, 41 points (15G, 26A)

Top d-men:
D. Hamilton - 63GP, 75 points (19G, 56A)
D. Rundblad - 63GP, 43 points (7G, 36A)
M. Marincin - 63GP, 20 points (10G, 10A)

Goalie stats:
A. Moodie - 31-12-7, 2.30GAA, 91.92SV%
T. Griess - 8-4-1, 2.30GAA, 92.05SV%

Not going to make any moves as there isn't a whole lot we can do to improve frankly. We haven't had many injuries in the NHL team, it's been our AHL boys who have been the walking wounded so far instead.

Probably going to go 8-13 seasons with the Senators depending.

After that log is done, I have what I assure you guys is the most amazing idea for a GM log ever......something I've never seen done that is just phenomenal. Did a test run tonight while watching the draft.

This is my defense, and goalies to start the 2019-2020 season. I love me some defensive hockey. :thumbu:

Brodin (89) - Myers (87)

Johnson (87) - Andersson (85)

Suter (86) - McQuaid* (83)

Scandella (84) as my 7th :amazed:

Starter: Bergvik (93) - Won two of the last three Jennings', and three straight Vezinas.

Backup: Sittler (87) - on the trading block

*not Adam McQuaid, but an undrafted free agent I signed during last season who developed well for me

Their ages are:

Brodin - 26
Myers - 29
Johnson - 32
Andersson - 22
Suter - 34
McQuaid - 23
Scandella - 29

Bergvik - 24
Sittler - 23

Outside of Suter and Johnson (in the next 2-3 years), this defense and goaltending will be with my team for a while. Plus I have some decent 4* defense prospects that will challenge soon. Too bad my forward group, outside of Benn (90), and a few young guys, is crap. But hey, there's always the trade deadline to fix that problem. :D

Also, I could have signed Doughty (92) as a free agent, but I thought it would have been overkill.

Trade Deadline and Season Recap

Trade Deadline

GM Brant King was the most active GM at the deadline in quite some time. He shipped out multiple picks, prospects, and roster players to obtain a number of players including, but not limited to, Aleksander Barkov, Phil Kessel, Ondrej Pavlec, and Marc-Edouard Vlasic. These moves really solidified the Flames as a team that is not only in it to win it now, but they are for a long time. These players they acquired aren't veterans on the downside of their career, these players are experienced leaders who are in their prime/just coming out of their primes. Either way the magic Brant King pulled off at the deadline is a win either way because with all the prospects, young players, and primed leaders; the window to win will be open for the next 5 or 6 years.

New players in CGY | Years | AAV
Phil Kessel | 7 | 8.000M
Aleksander Barkov | 1 | 0.925K
Ondrej Pavlec | 2 | 3.000M
ME Vlasic | 3 | 4.250M
Brandon McMillan | 3 | 1.720M

Season Recap

images

- Finished 2nd i Pacific Divison, 2nd in Western Conference, and 3rd in League
- Final record was 50-24-7 for a total of 107 PTS
- Had a record of 13-6-0 after the trade deadline
-Phil Kessel led team in scoring (85), Gaudreau (76), and Monahan (73) weren't faar behind
- The LA Kings finished 3rd in the Pacific Division for a 1st Round matchup against the Calgary Flames

Playoffs

images

The Calgary Flames had high hopes of improving in 14-15 Playoff performance. Sadly, they were handled quite easily by the LA Kings. The Flames were really only in 1 of the 4 games it took as in 2 others they were shutout.

The line of Gaudreau, Monahan, and Wheeler led the team in playoff scoring with 4 points each. Then theres Kessel who also had 4, while Barkov had 3 and Boedker continued on with his disappointing season with a 2 point effort.

CGY | LAK | Series
0 | 6 | 1-0 LAK
4 | 7 | 2-0 LAK
6 | 7 | 3-0 LAK
0 | 4 | LAK wins series 4-0

This loss was quite the embarrassment for GM Brant King and the Flames. They were boys that got their ass kicked by men. Calgary should take a lesson from this ... You gotta' get rough to win in the playoffs. GM Brant King has 1 year left on his current contract, and with the team he has built here in Calgary, anything but a trip to the Western Conference final will most likely get him fired.

@TSNBobMcKenzie: I wouldn't be surprised to see some names traded from NYI... GM Screeech was not happy with the way his defence played OR his goaltending.

2015-2016 end of season report
1638.gif

It was another difficult year for the Knights who once again finished in the basement. There was lots of promise and progress this year for the Knights however, they went a franchise best 29-46-7 good for 65 points. A dramatic improvement over last year. Their offence led by rookie winger Daniel Gagne scored 178 goals, an NHL low but a club record, while the defence led by Mike Green conceded a league high 291 goals, was the lowest in club history. Coach Guy Boucher says he is happy with the progress made and is excited by the team's long term potential, he also states that winger Daniel Gagne is barely scratching the surface of his potential.

GM Julien Brisebois was relatively quiet this year making 2 trades, both at the deadline, they are:
To NSH
G Tim Thomas

To QC
G Carter Hutton
2016 3rd round pick

To STL
RW Steve Downie

To QC
RW Ryan Reaves
2016 3rd round pick

Brisebois has stated that the club is open for buisness at the draft and that he could trade the first overall pick.

Rookie Daniel Gagne said: "I'm happy with whatever management chooses to do. I beleive in them. Whatever they do is going to help us."

It is believed the team is leaning toward a defenceman, as they have highend prospects upfront.

Top 5 scorers (Team)
LW D.Gagne 82 32 39 71
D M.Green 82 15 51 66
C K.Brodziak 82 14 42 56
RW C.Stewart 82 21 22 43
LW S.Gagne 82 19 20 39

2016 NHL Entry

1638.gif

We're here in San Jose California providing you with live coverage of the 2016 NHL entry draft.

The Quebec Knights hold the first pick and it's in play according to Bob McKenize:
@BobMcKenzie Knights could move the first pick tonight, want more picks. Open to moving down.

The Knights are expected to go D heavy in the draft as they like thier current group of forwards in their prospect pool. Their current top offensive prospects are Anthony Beauvillier and Connor Garland.

The draft is about to get underway, here we go:

"Good evening and welcome to San Jose, thank you for being our host. Quebec has the first pick, Quebec, get things started."

Brisebois: "Quebec selects Sean Day"
sean_day_mississauga_steelheads.jpg

No surprised, big D, great skater, they're building a fast team there, he'll fit in well with Gagne, Garland and Beauvillier.

Dallas selects Tyler Benson
"He's an unreal player, but they need D"
Arizona selects Auston Matthews
"hometown kid, you can bet they wanted him bad, told QC really liked him, felt he would of meshed well with Gagne but they felt a stronger need for D.
Renaud: Told Quebec's Mike Green has waived his NTC
Bettman on stage: We have a trade, Quebec trades Mike Green and Anthony DeLuca to Colorado for pick #22 and the rights to Eric Johnson.

Renaud: "Avalanche approached Quebec about this deal, Quebec will retain some of Green's salary. Avalanche insisted on DeLuca, really like him. He scored 22 goals in AHL cette season.

The newest Knight pictured below
erik-johnson-4_3.jpg

@DarrenDreger: on Green to AVS, Johnson wasn't resigning in Colorado, if Knights sign him big win.

With the 22nd selection Quebec selects from the Saint John Sea Dogs, Luke Green.

Once again another Sea Dog, they have 2 player there already. -Renaud Lavoie.

"Green is a smooth skating offensive defenceman, similar to Mike Green but no relation." -Craig Button

Renaud: Saint John play Quebec in playoffs last spring, Knights have already 2 player on Saint John, so they see a lot of Green and do thier homework on him.

Rest of the draft summary
Trades:
#31 to MTL for 51 and 81
#87 to Boston for 96, 126 and 186

Sections and recap coming soon.

I'm already looking to my next GM after this New Jersey one... either Philadelphia, NY Islanders, Los Angeles, Dallas, Anaheim, Florida or Montreal.
