Are there any past EA NHL or NHL 2K titles with franchise modes or dynasty that are exceptionally better than NHL 15 that despite their out dated rosters would be worth picking up just for fooling around with simming?

7890514.jpg

______________________________

GAME 1
-For the second year in a row, Ottawa will face the Capitals in the conference final. -Keith opens the scoring for Ottawa in the second period, but Chris Stewart is quick to respond with a goal.
-Tyler Johnson scores for Washington early in the third for the lead.

Lehner-640x427.jpg

______________________________
HERE AND THERE
-The Binghamton Senators capture the AHL championship. Ty Edmonds (21yo 80oa 4*) looks particularly great with a save percentage. Goalie of the future?
-The Washington Capitals go on to beat the Edmonton Oilers in the cup final 4 games to 1. It is the second year in a row where a team in the West that has made a major trade with Ottawa makes it uncharacteristically to the cup final. For Edmonton, the Hammond trade may have been one of the best in their teams history. They gave up what ended up as the 59th pick for a goalie who helped carry them to the final with a .942 playoff save percentage. Had it not been for Lehner's Vezina calibre season, and Conn Smythe level play in the post season, fans might be very upset about Ottawa trading the UFA Andrew Hammond.
-Erik Karlsson wins his fourth straight Norris trophy. Rumblings are that the league are considering renaming it the “Erik Karlsson” trophy. A poster on HFBoards starts a thread asking if 4 Norris trophies and a Stanley Cup ensures that Karlsson will get into the Hall Of Fame, most posters say no because he doesn't play d.
-Carey Price has won the last three straight Vezina trophies, but that streak is over. With a .929 save percentage over 82 games in the regular season, Robin Lehner is awarded the Vezina trophy.
-Former Ottawa Senator defender Eric Gryba who now plays for Columbus is awarded the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.
-Boris Tulupov of the Binghamton Senators wins the AHL scoring title.
-Following in Robin Lehner's footsteps, the 21 year old Ty Edmonds wins the Jack A. Butterfield trophy as AHL playoff MVP.
-Marian Hossa and Craig Anderson both call it quits and retire as Senators.

TRADING PRIVATE RYAN PART 2?
Early in the pre-season, there were rumblings that the Senators would consider trading Ryan. Next season Ryan will be 31 and have four years remaining on a 7.25M contract. Ryan's production will soon fall, but the question is, will it be next year, or will it be five years from now? The Senators may not be able to afford to gamble on it being the latter.

The big reason Senators GM Danielpalfredsson made the controversial move to acquire Duncan Keith is that he went on record as saying that he felt it was the team's time to make the trades needed to go on a run because as a budget team their window to win would be very limited. Even teams who can spend to the cap have short windows as a result of having to sell off key talent as they get too expensive.

Ryan was out for the entire playoffs, and one could argue, had he not been injured that the Senators would have been given the goal scoring support they needed to edge past Washington in a tight series and repeat as cup champion.

We've already seen the sell off of talent begin with the team losing Zach Smith, Jared Cowen, Andrew Hammond, and now most likely Duncan Keith. After next season, MacArthur and Methot who only have one year left on their deals could both be gone as well.

Trading Ryan could be a move that puts the Senators in a rebuilding or retooling category, and strips them of their chance to compete for another cup. Both Clarke MacArthur and Marc Methot also will be on the final year of their deals next season and may want to test the market to get one last big retirement deal.

Will Ryan remain a Senator?

Yes. 2k8 and NHL 2004

I tried the modded updated version of NHL 2004 for the PC. Played the games in the dynasty mode, but never tried simming far. There were a few interesting things, but it didn't seem that in depth.

Coincidentally, I have a copy of 2K8 but long story short have never played it. Is there something specific about 2k8's GM mode that makes it better than later instalments? Or was that just you're last 2k game? I'm guessing I could find a copy of 2k10 for a pennies.

BREAKING NEWS: OTTAWA SENATORS REQUEST BOBBY RYAN'S TEN TEAM TRADE LIST

In real life, Bobby Ryan can name ten teams he'd take a trade to, so I put all 29 other NHL teams in a list and pressed a random list generator five times. Top 10 teams on the list were the ones he'd accept a trade to. Trades in EA games will never be realistic, but I will only try to send Ryan to a team who actually needs a number 1 RWer, and I will only be looking for pieces that are some what logical for that team to give up. Of course, they have to give to get.....but you won't see me dumping Ryan for last year's 1st overall pick just because the values line up by the games engine's standards.

Earlier today, Senators management requested Bobby Ryan's ten team trades list. Given Bobby Ryan has a limited NTC, he can provide a list with ten teams he would like to be traded to, and Ottawa must accommodate him if they wish to trade him.

Bobby Ryan trade rumours have been floating around since well before last season. With both Karlsson and Turris signed to expensive long term deals with full NTCs, whether Ottawa would like to keep Ryan or not, as a budget team they simply can't afford to risk being stuck with his cap hit if he regresses as he gets older.

Trading Ryan becomes even harder for the Senators as they realize that with Ryan injured during last year's playoffs, a lack of scoring is what caused them to fail to advance to the cup final.

Still going strong at the age of 31, there are teams who would be glad to take on a first line right wing sniper, but with a limited no trade clause, Ryan is allowed to name 10 teams who he'd accept a trade to, and Ottawa will be forced to accommodate him.
______________________________

THE TEN TEAM LIST: DAL, CAR, WSH, CBJ, COL, NYI, CHI, WIN, BOS, FLA

FRONT RUNNER TRADE DESTINATIONS
DAL: A very likely destination. Dallas has almost no Rwers and could badly use a 1st liner. Ottawa would have to be willing to take Spezza back as a cap dump. Spezza has regressed tremendously in recent years and is on the final year of a contract that sees him have a 7.5M cap hit. Dallas would likely be looking to move draft picks/futures as they have no expendable roster players to use for a “hockey tradeâ€. The fact that Dallas has very few moveable pieces makes them the weaker of the two front runners.

CAR: They have quite a few high end goalie prospects which might interest Ottawa. They were a bottom 5 team last year, so their draft picks are very valuable and could be a worth while gamble for Ottawa. They have a good team on paper, but are severely lacking in RW talent. The Staal's are getting up there in age, and acquiring Ryan would be a chance for them to take one last run before having to blow things up completely when the Staal's retire.
______________________________

DESTINATIONS WITH MUTUAL INTEREST WHERE A TRADE IS UNLIKELY TO WORK FOR A VARIETY OF REASONS (IE Cap reasons, contract status of player's involved)

WSH: Very strong interest in Ryan. Ovechkin is 32, and it is in the team's best interest to capitalize and attempt to win another cup before he retires. A trade between these two teams might be hard to do, there is a lot of bad blood between the two after they met in the conference final two straight years in a row. The main piece being discussed would be Andre Burakovsky. Burakovsky has developed into a 1st line winger and is only 23. He is stuck behind Ovechkin on the left side. Ryan wouldn't be enough to get it done, word out of Washington is that Ottawa would have to be willing to include one Hoffman or Puempel who are both 2nd line snipers to get the trade done. Per Melnyk's rules, Ottawa is unable to retain salary on trades. With Washington at the cap ceiling, this might prevent a trade from happening between the two.

CBJ: Columbus is a team that has shown mild interest in Ryan. Similar to Washington, Columbus has a logjam on the left side and a deficiency on the right. 23 year old Kerby Rychel (88oa 2nd line PWF) would be a piece that Ottawa would look at. With Tyler Benson (81oa 4.5* 20yo) ready to graduate to the NHL, the Blue Jackets might benefit from moving Rychel. Similar to Washington, Ottawa would likely have to add to get the deal done. That, and when Rychel's deal ends in 3 years, he'll be a UFA not an RFA. This might hamper Ottawa's interest as they'd not only risk Rychel testing the market, but as a first line forward, he'd be able to demand a full no trade clause. With Edmond's development stalling, a second proposal which would consist of Oscar Dansk (24yo 4G* 83oa backup goalie) and draft picks in exchange for Ryan has been kicked around. Columbus would be a front runner if Rychel wasn't a UFA in three years, or if Dansk was a few years younger.
______________________________

TEAMS ON THE LIST WITH NO CHANCE FOR RYAN TO BE TRADED

COL: Colorado is not interested in Bobby Ryan. With Mitch Marner (3rd overall in 2015) booming into a 90oa 1st line forward and the free agent acquisition of David Backes (86oa 35yo) Colorado has one of the best top 6 line ups in the entire league.

NYI: Okposo is signed for 4 more years as their 1st line Rwer.

CHI: They have little in the ways of cap space and have Kane as their first line Rwer. Behind Kane they have Saad, Hartman, and Shaw. If anything, they would be interested in shipping out Rwers, not adding.

WIN: They already have Blake Wheeler as their first line Rwer.

BOS: Can use Bobby Ryan. Ottawa would have to be open to taking Brett Connolly or Jakob Silfverberg (both 2nd line snipers) as part of the deal. Is not a likely destination, as they are division rivals and Ottawa has Stone and Ritchie who are both 2nd line Rwers, so they have no need for Connolly of Silfverberg.

FLA: Florida is one player short of a top 6, and desperately needs a strong right winger to play with Barkov and Huberdeau. Florida has the cap space to take on Ryan, they do not have the means to make a hockey trade with Ottawa, but given they were the 2nd worst team in the entire NHL last year, maybe Ottawa would be smart to gamble on a draft pick from Florida. They are a divisional rival to Ottawa, which makes the chance of them acquiring Ryan slim to none.
______________________________

WHERE WILL RYAN GO?

With only two realistic destinations for Ryan, the Senators may have to be flexible with their expectations. With Ty Edmonds poor showing at this year's training camp, the Senators would like an NHL ready goalie with high end starting potential. This puts Carolina at the top of the list of potential suitors.

Columbus, a darkhorse destination might be able to step up and put together a competing offer with Oscar Dansk.

The question is, next to a goalie, what can Ottawa expect to get? With a thinning prospect pool and a rebuild or retool underway, the Senators are desperate for draft picks and high end future talent.

If Ryan is traded to the Dallas Stars, it opens the door for Ottawa to gain some positive publicty by bringing back Spezza and having him retire as a Senators. The Senators don't really need Spezza, but his trade value would be inconsequential in the trade, and it'd be necessary to make the cap situation work for Dallas.

HERE AND THERE
-Ottawa unhappy with development of Ty Edmonds. Edmonds had a great year in the AHL, but was expected to progress and be ready to backup Lehner in the NHL. With very little progression, doubts have been planted about whether the 2nd round pick will be Ottawa's goalie of the future.
-Ottawa sign UFA Kolten Dixon 23yo 2.5G* 79oa defender to a three year 1 way deal. Dixon is an NHL ready college free agent expected to act as a cheap bottom pairing D.
-Duncan Keith (87oa 35yo top 4 D) signs a 2 year 6.9M contract with divisional rival Tampa Bay Lightning.
-Methot refuses an extension with Ottawa, he will test the market. With Ottawa thin at D, don't expect him to be traded unless Ottawa is out of the playoffs at the deadline.
-MacArthur is open to an extension. There is speculation that Ottawa will re-sign the long time Senator to a deal that would allow him to eventually retire with the team.
-In a depth move, Ottawa trades the Anaheim Ducks 26yo 80oa C Ryan Dzingel for 34yo LW Maxime Talbot.

Which team will win the Bobby Ryan derby? Will Senators fans be happy with the return? Will Ottawa be able to adequately re-tool into a cup contender, or was the short two year cup window with Duncan Keith the best we'll ever see of the Ottawa Senators? I don't remember if they did an update last year.

I'm guessing that they'll wait until the second week of July because there are so many moves happening.

I hate the lack of consistent roster updates, huge pet peeve.

If you just want one for GM mode or what ever you could follow that list for the more major moves: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/transactions

The only issue is that you can't move draft picks or change salary.

Going to be posting a Winnipeg GM mode soon, going to try my best to get this one posted consistently, I have a lot of free time now, look forward to a post in the next week or so. also, I created some of the NCAA prospects, i did all the winnipeg NCAA draft picks from the 1st 2 rounds of the draft, and I did all the NCAA prospects who went top 10, too lazy to do every single one that went in the 1st round, well, on next gen at least. :)

Ugh. Columbus or Dallas for the next one?

Columbus for me was very frustrating as they went to playoffs once in 4 years and were usually a bottom 5-8 team when they missed. I put together a team that should make the playoffs, but they couldn't get it done. I lost interest in it after that.

CANADIENS ADD FROLIK
1297480214769_ORIGINAL.jpg
MONTREAL - In another highly praised move, Montreal GM James Masyk acquired skilled two-way forward Michael Frolik from the Winnipeg Jets at this year's trade deadline in exchange for depth forward Riley Nash, prospect Jesse Hilton and a 2018 2nd-round draft pick. "[Michael] is a forward I've had an eye on for some time now," Masyk spoke after the deadline, "and I am confident his skilled defensive play will assist the Canadiens in our quest for the Stanley Cup this postseason."

GALLAGHER SOARS, PRICE STRUGGLES
MONTREAL - The Canadiens enter the postseason with uncertainty toward their Vezina-winning starting goaltender. Hobbled by persistent injury and seemingly unable to find the form that marked him as last year's best goalie, Carey Price has posted career-worst statistics in Goals Against Average, Save Percentage, and Shutouts.
On the upside, rugged winger Brendan Gallagher has bounced back from an injury-riddled season of his own, posting career-high numbers of goals, assists, points, penalty minutes and plus/minus.
Deadline acquisition Michael Frolik has quietly put together an impressive season for his new team (22 goals, 20 assists, 42 points 77 games).
Once more, the Canadiens approach the postseason in anticipation of facing a statistically superiod Tampa Bay Lightning team. The Canadiens defeated the Lightning in 6 games last playoffs. The two teams meet again in the first round.

For the second year in a row and the third time in four years the Tampa Bay Lightning find their year ending early at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens. Strong play by the Pacioretty-Galchenyuk-Voracek line and an All-Star worthy performance by Price once again carried the Canadiens past their statistically superior Atlantic Division rivals.

More strong play from Carey Price and a surprising depth of scoring carries the Canadiens past Atlantic Division Champions and century-old rivals in the Toronto Maple Leafs. This was the 16th such postseason meeting between the two clubs, with Montreal carrying a 9-7 advantage during such contests.
The last time the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs met in the postseason was the 1978–79 season.

The Montreal Canadiens enter the Eastern Conference Finals series as huge underdogs against a stingy New York Islanders team that won the Eastern Conference and Metropolitan Division. If the Canadiens advance it will be the first time since 1993 that the team has made it to the Stanley Cup Final, which they won.

For the first time in twenty four years the Montreal Canadiens are playing for the Stanley Cup against a Dallas Stars club that was dominant in the regular season, winning the Presidents' Trophy with a league-leading Goals For.
The Canadiens have never faced the Dallas Stars in the Stanley Cup finals. The last time the Stars played in a Stanley Cup Finals series was in 1999 when they defeated the Buffalo Sabres in six games.

THE STANLEY CUP IS COMING HOME!
image.jpg
MONTREAL - In just his third year at the helm of the Montreal Canadiens, GM James Masyk has done what no other Canadien has been able to do for 24 years - bring home the Stanley Cup.
"This is a team award and everyone - coaches, players, scouts, trainers, everyone - was involved in this victory," a jubilant Masyk addressed the press in the aftermath of the Canadiens' 3-1 Bell Center victory over the Dallas Stars, completing the sweep and bringing home the greatest trophy in all of sports to the city that has won it the most. An unprecedented twenty-fifth Stanley Cup banner will hang from the rafters of the Bell Center.
Hours later, owner and president Geoff Molson announced that Masyk's contract was extended another 5 years, locking him in until 2022. Financial details were not disclosed.
Ending their careers on high notes are center Dominic Moore (844 games played, 104 goals, 160 assists, 264 points) and defenseman Raphael Diaz (149 games played, 6 goals, 41 assists, 47 points).

"He's a few years away from playing at the NHL level, but we have to look to the future five, six, seven years from now, and ensure that the Canadiens remain competitive."

Columbus for me was very frustrating as they went to playoffs once in 4 years and were usually a bottom 5-8 team when they missed. I put together a team that should make the playoffs, but they couldn't get it done. I lost interest in it after that.

I'm going to do Dallas.

Goalies are really interesting in this game.

Pretty sure, that aside from huge differences like 90oa vs 84oa, actual overall doesn't matter. You can have an 85oa goalie that sims better than an 87 overall goalie. Although, I'm not sure which stats have the biggest weight towards a goalie simming well.

Goalies piss me off in this game.
