TRADE DEADLINE UPDATE (62 GAMES PLAYED)
GREG PATERYN JOINS THE CANUCKS
Early during the season, the Canucks shopped around for a solid bottom pairing stay at home defender to compliment Ehrhoff. They found a trading partner in Montreal and acquired Greg Pateryn in exchange for a 4th round draft pick. AHL grinder Alexandre Grenier was also sent to Montreal in the deal. Pateryn has been given Weber's spot on the bottom pairing.
FIRST IN THE PACIFIC
Vancouver is first in the Pacific division with a 35-21-6 record and 76 points. There is still a realistic chance Vancouver could miss the playoffs as they are only currently in by 5 points. The race in the West is very tight.
HOW DO YOU LIKE DEM APPLES?
The Apple Sauce line is having a stellar season. Happy Sedin leads the league in assists with 54, and has 66 points on the season. While Serious Sedin has 24 goals and 59 points. Vrbata leads Vancouver in goals with 28 and has 53 points. Vrbata is on pace to beat his career high of 35 goals and could possibly crack 40 goals for the first time in his NHL career.
SOLID LIKE A KIA
Sutter is having a strong season as the 2C with 18 goals and 36 points thus far. Horvat is also having a strong season, and showing that he has a scoring touch with 34 points on the season.
ELLIS UNDER PERFORMING?
After a very slow start that saw multiple fans act very critical towards him, Ryan Ellis settled into his new team and has now put up 10 goals and 26 points.
RYAN MILLER IS FANTASTIC
Miler has had a great season thus far with a .920 save percentage. Canucks fans were critical of Benning for signing Miller last year, but this season he has raised his stock tremendously across the NHL and is seen as one of the top goalies in the league. Along with the Sedins, he's seen as instrumental to carrying the Canucks' team.

THE BIG TRADE.......
...
BREAKING NEWS: PATRICK KANE SHIPPED TO MONTREAL
The hockey landscape has just been altered, as Montreal has acquired Patrick Kane from the Blackhawks.
There had been rumblings in the off season that Kane would be traded because enough was enough, and Patrick Kane was more trouble than he was worth for Chicago. After Kane started the season with the Blackhawks, the rumours died down, and most had assumed that the Blackhawks had decided to keep the 28 year old winger for the remainder of his massive 10.5M per contract.
In what is a huge shock to the hockey world, the Blackhawks sent Kane and a third round pick to Montreal in exchange for Dalton Thrower, Montreal's 1st round pick in the upcoming draft (Projected 25-30), and Martin Reway.
There are mixed feelings about the trade throughout the hockey world. Strictly from a talent perspective, Montreal paid very little and got Kane at an absolute steal of a price. Rumour has it that multiple owners refused to allow their GMs to place an offer for Kane because they were concerned that acquiring Kane so soon after his latest incident would result in a media **** storm for their organization.
As far as the return goes, Thrower is player whose stock has sky rocketed since being taken near the end of the second round a few years back, he is considered to be a can't miss future top 4 defender (21yo 4G*). Martin Reway is a marginal prospect who might become a good middle 6 scorer, and Montreal's first will not be very high but it should net Chicago a good player in a draft that is being touted as one of the deepest in years. Still, none of those pieces will come close to providing the talent that Kane did.
With the addition of Kane, Montreal has kickstarted their weakest point, which is their flat offense. It is speculated that Montreal hasn't just paid Thrower, Reway, and a 1st for Kane, but that they'll also pay in the form of losing or having to sell off multiple players this off season in order to get under the cap when Kane's massive 10.5M extension kicks in this off season. (Remember, we're in a weird EA time warp since you have to start in 2015, but extensions are in place)
Montreal moved out no cap with this trade as Reway and Thrower are both prospects so they must have felt that setting themselves up for a potential cap hell was worth picking up one of the most dynamic wingers in the game at a bargain of a price.
Some analysts and fans seem to think that with this trade, Montreal might have set themselves up for cap hell as soon as this off season. Others think that the Canadiens just scooped up one of the most dynamic wingers in the game and have made themselves instant cup contenders.
@belligerenthockeyfan-"fire Stan Boweman hes a **** gm and a **** person imma kick him if i ever see him"

OTHER TRADE DEADLINE MOVES
ANAHEIM ACQUIRE BOYCHUK, SEND TOP PROSPECT NICK RITCHIE TO THE ISLANDERS
Anaheim has acquired Johnny Boychuk, but have paid a steep price to do so. They've sent former 10th overall draft pick Nick Ritchie to the Islanders. Ritchie projects as a top 6 power forward, but the Ducks are desperate to clinch a playoff spot, and without added help could find themselves on the outside looking in come April.

VANCOUVER ACQUIRE JAGR
With playoffs in sight, the Vancouver Canucks have acquired Jaromir Jagr from the basement dwelling Panthers. Jagr has 19 goals and 50 points on the season, and is signed to a 5.4M per contract that'll still have a year remaining after this season. Whether he'll retire or play through his contract is yet to be known.
The Panthers acquired veteran right winger Alexandre Burrows in the deal. Burrows is an inferior player to Jagr, but unlike Jagr, he isn't at risk to retire at the end of the season and gives the Panthers a top 6 player for next season.
The Canucks had to retain 1.6M of Burrows 4.5M contract to get the deal done, meaning, if Jagr doesn't retire, they'll be on the hook for nearly a combined 7M next season. This shouldn't be a problem as the Canucks don't have any major raises, and Ehrhoff's 5M contract will expire, which should give them some flexibility.

UP NEXT: END OF SEASON.....do the Canucks make the playoffs, or do they crash and burn like Hyundai's 2016 Santa Fe model would if it were put up against Kia's award winning 2016 Sorento SX model?
