I really don’t mind non-intelligent forwards, so long as they have some type of athletic or physical ability that makes them stick out.

But as a goalie myself, there’s nothing worse than a d-man who you can’t trust to make the smart decision. It’s debilitating

On paper, Newhook is a perfect fit on the second line with Kadri and Burakowski.

Both Kadri and Burakowski are better goal scorers than playmakers, and Newhook can easily fit that playmaker role to feed them.

I'd be concerned with who is going to win the puck in the OZ out of that lot. Burakovsky isn't one to muck it up, and Kadri tends to want to stay in the slot for shooting opportunities. Ideally that line would have a big and physical playmaker on it.

Watching a Devils game from last season to get more of a read on Murray.

Looks to skate well. Pretty boring with the puck on his stick. Definite muffin for a shot and will probably take the title from Sammy G for worst shot on the Avs. He made a couple nice plays going down to one knee to break up passes. Threw his body in front of a couple shots to get blocks. He didn’t engage physically much, but competed around the front of the net.

Also, Jack Hughes looks sooo talented. Will be interesting to see if it all comes together for him next year.

Murray's metrics from the 2019/20 season with Columbus.

-21% xGA/60 at 5v5 is really impressive. Columbus were a good defensive team but they were 11% better with Murray than without him, in xGA/60 at 5v5. He also had a strong showing on the PK at -16%, though Columbus in general were also good at -13%.

My favourite part of the 5v5 charts is how much blue there is in the slot area defensively.

I thought he was going to have his break out after his start last year, but covid seemed to really ruin the end of his season. Size will obviously be an issue for him going forwards, but his skating is about as elite as it gets. Wouldn’t be surprised if he goes PPG next year.
