He's a functional 4th liner on a team with depth. Late round pick should be the price for that type of rental.

Every team has those tweener/fringe NHLers either on their roster or on their AHL club. Nobody will be giving up a 2nd for one.

I’m going to guess that Chiasson never sniffs close to 17 goals again, ala Maroon when Edmonton dumped him. He’s a fringe player/borderline waiver fodder and it’ll show when he plays for a new team

Low ask on a valuable asset = laughable
High ask on a not so valuable asset = laughable

Yes, you are correct. It's laughable.

Chiasson is hardly worth a 3rd round pick, nevermind a second. Guys a 4th line plug that gets to play with Mcdavid because the Oilers have no wingers.

Middle six winger with 17 goals on a league min deal who is physical, plays net front on the PP and PKs. There'll be a market for him.

Hagelin who makes significantly more money just went for a 3rd and a 6th and he has 2 goals this entire season lol

That wasn't the last time he was traded, but I'd like to point out that by saying this, you're saying a guy's trade value doesn't change in four and a half years?
no what i'm saying is he's barely and NHL player at this point and isn't worth anywhere close to a 2nd,
anybody with even a passing knowledge of player values know's this

Many of you have never negotiated a thing in your damned lives and it shows

Maroon got a 3rd and a C grade prospect, Chiasson could easily pull that.

****in Hagelin has 2 goals, 8 points, and five times the cap hit and just went for a 3rd and a conditional 6th.
ok so, the oilers got two pieces neither of whom is very likely to ever see NHL ice

Are you not paying attention to the NHL this year?

Hagelin is a defensive specialist with a 120+ NHL playoff games under his belt including great playoff runs with both the Rangers and Penguins. Comparing Chiasson’s value to Hagelin’s using a tiny sample is a total false equivalency. Ask any GM and coach who’s they pay more as the gear up for a stretch run in the playoffs with Cup aspirations and I’d wager it would be a lot to nothing in favor of Hagelin. Unless you are so hurting for goal scoring that Chiasson’s the type of guy who would improve your top 6. In which case, you’re not a serious contender.

Nowhere does it say the Oilers are asking for a 2nd. It's Darren Dreger guessing.

Generally their fringe NHLers don't play with top line guys since they have actual depth.

Teams aren't getting Chaisson to play in their top 6 lol.

He's got 14 5-on-5 points this season and over half of them are with McDavid on the bench.

Would it kill some of you to look at the stats before posting in here?

Forsure, Hagelin was awesome in the playoffs a couple years ago. I'll be honest I never really watch LA but I watch a lot of the Penguins and Hagelin has not been very good for the past 2+ years.

I'm sure he's still more sought after than a guy like Chiasson but I don't think Hagelin is even close to being the player he used to be anymore. Unless he just didn't like playing for the Penguins or something

I don't really blame Gretzky for asking a 2nd rounder. When the names start disappearing from the board on Monday someone might bite, crazier things have happened on TDL. I'm no fan of Chiasson but he does have 17 goals and recent playoff experience and that's not nothing. Worst case scenario the Oilers keep him, have some locker room stability for once and work on re-signing him. In the past they've pawned off Schultz, Petry etc. for 4th rounders and that has lead them nowhere. Might be good for Gretzky to make a bit of a statement here, that he won't bend over to anything like Chiarelli. Burke did a similar thing in Calgary with Cammalleri a few years back.
