Here are the scoring totals spanning the last three seasons:
McDavid and Kucherov have been pulling away for some time now.
McDavid has played 5 more games than Kuch over the last 3 years. Their PPG during this stretch are tied as of today: 1.32 versus 1.32. One more game until Kuch steals the crown from McDavid as, not only the best player in the world this season, but best player in the world PERIOD. The statistics are the statistics. A three year stretch is a pretty substantial body of evidence.
On a different note, all posters who continue to perpetuate this "superfluous" points discussion will hereinafter have their hockey cards revoked for the rest of the season. Alternatively, we should equally exclude all points McDavid tallied late last season in close games as "futile" because they were irrelevant. The Oilers season was over. Thus, they were meaningless points that should not be counted in view of the absurd logic being tossed around here.
