Here are the scoring totals spanning the last three seasons:

McDavid and Kucherov have been pulling away for some time now.

McDavid has played 5 more games than Kuch over the last 3 years. Their PPG during this stretch are tied as of today: 1.32 versus 1.32. One more game until Kuch steals the crown from McDavid as, not only the best player in the world this season, but best player in the world PERIOD. The statistics are the statistics. A three year stretch is a pretty substantial body of evidence.

On a different note, all posters who continue to perpetuate this "superfluous" points discussion will hereinafter have their hockey cards revoked for the rest of the season. Alternatively, we should equally exclude all points McDavid tallied late last season in close games as "futile" because they were irrelevant. The Oilers season was over. Thus, they were meaningless points that should not be counted in view of the absurd logic being tossed around here.

Crosby still hanging in there despite his age compared to those ahead of him.

Surprising to see Geno up there, a lot of games missed through injuries.

Most surprising revelation is that McDavid is +48.

I'd say its actually a pretty good indicator of what's up. Look at Kuchs PP totals vs everyone else. He produces at almost 1.5x the rate. This is also true this year, though closer to 1.3x. It's a good indication of how good the Lightning are in general right now.

Good teams get more Powerplays and do more with them. Kuch is a huge part of that success too so not selling him short.

It just makes me angry when I look at McDavid that basically has one other player to defer to on his team (either RNH or LD). God why can't they surround him with talen too.

Anyways think that it's hard to argue that Kuch isn't at least the 2nd best player in the world right now... and there is a reasonable one that he is the best right now.

OP has been updated. Marner has got himself back into the top 10, while Stamkos is out. He seems to be slumping right now. Kuch has this wrapped up unless he gets injured. Just watching who finishes in top 5, and who ends up top 10.

TIL being the best offensive player automatically crowns you as the best player.
