I would love a Peterson for Butcher swap, Colorado is very thin in goal. This is dependent on Peterson wanting to go to Colorado of course.

Is that because he finished all four years rather than leaving a year early? Just curious why that was the case for Vesey and is the case for Butcher, but we lose Petersen on 30 days notice.
Yes, it's because Butcher remained in college.

Literally no one is trading for Petersen. He's a free agent in, like, three days and can't sign until July 1st.

Good. There's a poster in the Colorado board...might even be a mod....who continues to blame Buffalo for his development and purposely ignoring that his agent threatened the KHL if we sent him down. So this is deserved.

Also happy to see Emerson Etem not qualified. Looks like the league has the same opinion of him he has of Buffalo.

If we can get Eichel done at 8 years around 8 per I'm pretty sure I'd rather him at that price then McDavid at 13.25 per...but I'm almost certain we are looking at more then 8 per now...

I love Eichel, but he's not the reigning Hart trophy and Art Ross winner...McDavid isn't his comparable as far as salary goes. Draisaitl is more accurate, he's the one we should be watching for clues on what Jack will get.

Maybe. The stats between him and McDavid aren't really comparable yet.

McDavid

127 games, 46G 102A 148 pts

Eichel:

142 G 48G 65A 113 pts

That's not saying Eichel's numbers aren't incredible, they are.

They just...aren't McDavid's

I'd offer him 2 deals: 2 year, 17M deal. Let him "Earn" a McDavid contract.

Or.

8 years, 72M. Guaranteed money today.

If McDavid is getting $13m then Eichel will get $10m. But that's 8 years.

If they go 5-6 it will be less, but it means either Eichel and/or the Sabres have doubts about their relationship.

If it's not a bridge deal or the 8 year max, break out the pitchforks.

I look at Jack's assist numbers and think about how many times he would set up guys for basically tap-ins and they'd miss. He'd be a lot closer with just one finisher on his line.

You could do this just with math.

1.16 PPG v. 0.79 PPG

$13.25 x (0.79/1.16) = $9.02M

And there's your contract.

Right. That's what he's shown so far. The rest is just potential and expectation. McDavid is signing his deal based on what he's shown he can do, which is literally be the most valuable player in the league.

It's not really in the player's interest at all to sign right now...Jack should go out there and dominate a full season, then sign. Coming off an injury season and a final push where he basically coasted...I'm not super enthused about signing him to an extension right now unless it's a team-friendly deal. I wouldn't imagine anyone in the front office is lining up waving $11-12 million AAV contracts at him either.

If McJesus is gettint 13.25, say Drais gets 7.75, I'm fine with Jack at 8.75@8. I think we can absorb that contract long term with small cap increases year over year.

Not as many as you'd think.

McDavid just creates alot more. It's not like McDavid is playing with Tarasenko in Edmonton.

I'd be absolutely fine with that number for locking Jack up. I'd be surprised if he would though.
