that's not a real picture is it?
That's a real pic. Just pulled up the game on GCL and verified:
that's not a real picture is it?
Former Sen on former Sen violence. Jesse Winchester hit Chris Kelly with a flying elbow. No penalty.

That looks pretty bad. At least 3 games. Maybe double that.
Let's assess the "intangible" factors...
Points in his favor:
+ he has no prior history for this sort of thing
Points working against him:
- he is not a superstar
- he plays for a small market team
- he is a tweener, who the NHL loves to make examples of for these sorts of things
... not looking good...
When has Winchester ever rotated between the AHL and the NHL?
Depends on what your definition of a Tweener is, I guess.
On almost any other team in the league, he's a tweener, IMO. He has a job because he's cheap, and because the Panthers needed cheap bodies to fill out their bottom lines. Once he gets to the point where his age becomes a concern, or he starts demanding anything over a certain reasonable amount of money, he'll lose value fast. He's the kind of guy that loses a roster spot to make room for someone younger.
I love Winny, but the dude is a 4th line specialist on a contender, at best. I think he's done a real nice job of catching lightning in a bottle with the Panthers, but I think he's due for a regression. His shooting percentage is almost 4x his career average right now.
He definitely brings great value to the Panthers for $600k in the NHL, or $125k in the AHL. And he has 4 goals already! He is on pace for 20 goals. Panthers fans seem to think he's alright too.
How many PPG+ players are there on each team:
4: OTT
3: NYI SJS
2: ANA DET PIT STL TAM TOR WSH
1: BOS BUF CGY COL LOS VAN
0: CAR CHI CLB DAL EDM FLA MIN MON NSH NJD NYR PHI PHX WPG
The scoring is there.
Based on the scale of suspension John Scott got for his hit, shouldn't Winchester get about 12 games?
When has Winchester ever rotated between the AHL and the NHL?
His offensive play has apparently shown distinct improvements this season, and we already know about his willingness and ability to battle for pucks along the boards.
With this break, Winchester gets the opportunity to talk contract.
