Brayden Point healthy scratched because he missed a team meeting. Sucks for my hockey pool, but man Tampa has to have a ton of depth if they can afford to keep him out of the lineup and still win.

That’s how standards are made and kept. Doesn’t matter who you are, you have to be held accountable.

What Tampa is doing is amazing. That franchise is run so well at every aspect.

Poor Don Cherry! All he ever did was use his national platform to spew hate, misogyny, chauvinism, and general ignorance for 35 years. He also talks about hockey sometimes, although I've never heard him say a single insightful or interesting thing about it. Once upon a time he was an entertaining broadcaster, but I really can't remember the last time he wasn't incredibly depressing to watch. His brain is pudding now.

That being said, the Hurricanes thing is very embarrassing. It's sub-terrell owens crap that's just intended to generate clicks on social media for a zombie sports franchise that only exists to pad out the league and give the real teams someone to play against. this culture is hell

A bit ironic that you the self appointed determinator of equality is spreading intolerance against the elderly. The only difference is the target. It pretty easy to knock others down to show how enlightened you are. He is from a different time but from what I have heard/seen he has helped a lot of people and his heart seems like it is in the right place You have set a very high standard for you and your family going forward hope you and they live up to it. If not it would be a long fall for you.

Blues are basically in.

I kinda feel that if Arizona loses this game to Edmonton they are pretty much out, but I'll have to run some simulations as I'm not sure.

Turtle derby is apropos though. They should cancel the 2nd wild card and give the conference winners a bye.
With victories by NYR and FLA today, that bumps the Canucks down to 24th overall in league standings. They had been 20th for a while now. Pending the results of the AZ/EDM game, if AZ wins, they tie the Canucks for points, but go ahead due to ROW. That would drop the Canucks to 25th overall in the standings.

Yet, even if that occurred, the Canucks are 1 point out of the playoffs. Which is completely insane.

But, now seeing how packed together the west is. All of the teams will be equal with the Canucks in terms of games played, maybe 1 game in hand.

Anaheim is also leading the wild, which would make it even more insane.

A lot of people in Canada an in big American markets forget that thee Hurricanes still rank pretty low in terms of sports teams of interest in North Carolina, their popularity in the region for the most part is pretty close to the level of interest that people have in the Vancouver Canadians here.

If you can have some sort of shtick that generates interest and brings more people into the arena then it's worth it. Combined with the fact that they're making a strong push for the playoffs they've seen much higher attendance numbers in the New Year.

People in Canada (and by extension, NHL front offices) so often forget that professional hockey is a form of *entertainment* , not a lifestyle for 99% of potential fans.

Ducks beat the wild, 4-0. Mental.

I was thinking it was going to be crazy when a team makes the playoffs with 85 points but now it's like a team is going to make it with 80.

Crazy how the Blues went from being run over by the Canucks, having fights at practices, talks of selling off players/trading Tarasenko/massive shakeups, to 11 wins in a row and nipping on Nashville’s heels for second in the Central.

This is where they were predicated to be when the season began but the path they took to get their is wild.

Arizona picks up two points to tie Vancouver. Now four teams with 59 points. Wild still stuck on 60, and Edmonton also picks up a point. Madness.

Tightly packed now that everyone else has made up their games in hand on the Canucks.

Arizona might make the bloody playoffs and I'm convinced half their roster is imaginary. Josh Archibald is on their first line lol, I'm not even sure that's a real person. Good lord.

People who whine about injuries on the Canucks should have a gander at that team. Raanta has missed nearly the entire season, Dvorak the entire season, Grabner out for the season, Chychrun can't stay in the lineup. They trade for Schmaltz and he puts up a ppg for a dozen games and then gets hurt and will miss the rest of the season. Completely nuts.

We need to stop throwing that word around - he is not racist. There is a huge difference.

it's like there was this one time a poster called me racist for saying linden was better than naslund. and i'm like, are you really playing the race card to defend a blonde white guy on the internet?

Ehhhhh I can’t believe I’m gonna defend Cherry but here goes.

Doesn’t excuse it but most of the Archie Bunker generation of guys born in the 20s and 30s talk like that and grew up with those social norms. Doesn’t excuse it but he doesn’t make comments like that anymore and has been a massive supporter of women’s hockey.

And I mentioned it previously, but given the global political situation and his pro-military stance and his target demographic, it would have been the easiest thing in the world for him to ignore a Muslim player like Kadri completely or take some easy shots at him. Instead he was probably his biggest booster in the media, showered the ‘good Canadian kid’ stuff on him, and presented a really positive, progressive attitude to his likely largely anti-Muslim demographic. And I respected the hell out of him for that.

.... and now back to talking about him as an old man yelling at clouds and having idiotic takes on Erik Gudbranson.

to add to that, every time the cbc higher ups came after him, especially when he was cheerleading the endless wars in afghanistan/iraq, the easiest and most obvious thing for him to do would be to dog whistle some white identity politics and pander to the base so they would come save his butt. but he never did that.

admittedly, a pretty low bar-- gee, thanks for not being a racist piece of garbage-- and i'm not in the business of giving white people medals for not being racist. but still, almost every single other tv personality in his position did exactly that over the last 15-odd years.
