12:11 Ice time, 1 shot, 1 hit & 1 block for Studenic in his Stars debut - a 4-0 loss to Toronto as the Stars got shutout by Erik Kallgren, who made 35 saves in his first NHL start. He's a 25 year old former 7th round pick of the Yotes that had some pedestrian stats in the AHL this year (3.02 GAA / .904 SV%), though those are better stats than the rest of the Marlie goalies so maybe their defense just sucks.

Studo also drew a penalty.

Looks like trade deadline talk is starting to heat up around the league. SJ making progress on a Hertl extension, Rangers interested in Vatrano, Giordano being held out, Benson and Mathieu Perrault on waivers…. let’s get this rolling i’m getting antsy!

Also wait how is Studenic in the AHL? Conditioning assignment? Just checked and he’s got 6 points in 4 games with Texas.

Yup, conditioning stint:

The standard form of the loan lasts for 14 consecutive days. The player is sent to the AHL, plays in whatever games he’s assigned and then returns to the NHL at the end. His salary is paid as if he’s in the NHL, and the player counts against the salary cap and the 23-man roster limit. A team has to have the kind of cap situation that allows for enough players as extras to make this possible.

The Commissioner has the right to investigate the circumstances of any loan, so teams cannot use the loan to evade waivers or the salary cap.

Players must consent to conditioning loans as well.

That seems like a low return for Fatrano...

As others noted, it's a buyer's market and typically depth wingers are an easier commodity to find than centers/D. Most playoff bound teams don't have a ton of cap space to work with and I don't think many GMs would have wanted Vatrano to be their only/main deadline pickup. The Rangers and Predators don't have to worry about cap space this season, but all the other playoff teams are going to have to be judicious over the next few days.

Wonder if Hertls deal is the ceiling for Bratts. Maybe come in at 8x7.5 rather than 8x6?
You have to factor in that we’re buying likely the entirety of Bratt’s prime on a long term deal. I’m really interested to see what kind of deal he ends up with.

Makes sense for Florida, but that's quite the price tag. Wonder if there are any lottery protections on the pick.
