Fresh start for Jost. There were probably unrealistic expectations for him after he topped Connor McDavid's Canada's U18 tournament record for points right before the 2016 Draft; As I remember it, Jost loaded up against the bad teams then was just okay against the medal contenders.

This is an odd trade....FOR THE AVS to agree with and do.

Why on earth would you not only trade within your own division but also trade with a team that is challenging you for 1st in the division and may meet you in the playoffs???

I think it's possible he plays well over there and at least starts to look a little better, but he's been much less than spectacular in the NHL. Not as underwhelming as McLeod, but nothing special.

yeah but he could've had that "fresh start" on a team OUTSIDE the Division or even the conference instead of the Wild. Avs better hope that if they meet the Wild in the playoffs, that Jost doesn't burn them.

I think it was a cap dump more than anything. Making way for that incoming Giroux trade.

I'm wonder who goes in that? I'm surprised Jost wasn't a throw-in for Giroux. Guess the Flyers don't really want him.

The Manson deal is basically the perfect person for the Avs to trade for. They need to jump start Girard and had to find a specific player for him to play with.

Jost hasn't been good enough for a scoring role and isn't good enough to play in a defensive/grinder role either. Sturm probably fits better this year for them and Minnesota takes a chance that Jost can improve enough to be used in a scoring role.

Both solid moves to help the Avs out this year.

Manson hasn't been good for a while so it isn't a sure thing. If he bounces back on Colorado then it's great. If he doesn't then it doesn't help

I remember Jost was one of the 4 guys I was hoping would fall to us in 2016, Nylander was another lol 2/4 I guess. Hopefully a fresh start will help him

I totally would have been happy with Nylander in the moment. I was hoping Keller would have dropped to us but that got spoiled earlier than expected. That draft is a fun "what if" had Columbus, Edmonton, and Calgary pulled off a three way trade to swap spots. Allegedly Edmonton got cold feet because they'd be enabling Calgary to get Jesse Puljujarvi. Some fan fiction:

3. Calgary - RW Jesse Puljujarvi
4. Columbus - C Pierre-Luc Dubois (picked him at #3 in real life)
5. Vancouver - LD Olli Juolevi (whoops)
6. Edmonton - LD/RD Mikhail Sergachev (their alleged target had they moved down)
7. Arizona - LW Matthew Tkachuk
8. Buffalo - RW Alex Nylander (or do they take Keller who was a center at the time)
9. Montreal - Keller/Jost/Brown instead of Sergachev? Maybe they never trade for Drouin?

Manson has been great when playing alongside an offensive minded dman and he'll do just that if paired with Girard, which seems to be the case. Having issues on a team, that's having issues all together, isn't a just representantion of what a player can bring to the table for another team that can compliment him properly.

The Avs really need to go out and get Giroux. Just f***in go for it now.

They've gotta be cup favorites by a whole lot if they added him. He's still really good and I'm glad he's (hopefully) leaving the division soon enough. Hopefully another team in the division doesn't sign him, although it could be good for other teams in the division later in his deal if he signs for significant term and falls off in a few years.

I think as long as Kuemper performs well in the playoffs, I really gotta think they'll be in the finals, if not win the cup.

I'd like to see a Florida-Colorado cup final, but that's probably too much to ask for.

I'm tired of the same old shit and really want something new.
DD would be thrilled with your predicted cup finals...

Well, not what I predict, just what I'd like to see.

I'm not sure Florida is ready for the cup finals yet.

Knowing DD, he would probably predict the Rags to be in against ..... I can't even think of who he'd like in the West?

Yeah people were beside themselves when Jost was taken, he was the last of a 'tier' of prospects and it stuck us with McLeod. Turned out there really wasn't much difference between the two so far.

Mikey is an excellent 4C and while Id have preferred him at a later pick, he certainly has a spot on this roster long-term. Just need to up our faceoff %s throughout the lineup so he is needed less on the higher-end draws

Looks like a couple of Boston College guys signed. Anaheim inked Drew Helleson, so he might be making his NHL debut in the near future. Bruins signed undrafted free agent Marc McLaughlin who was on the Olympic team last month. Probably limited upside as a bottom six forward if he makes it.
BU Junior D Vlasic signed today. Now do McCarthy.

Avs might have another move in the works? I didn't see the salary difference until now. Jost has a 2 mil cap hit while Sturm is at 725K. Colorado does get some temporary cap relief with Landeskog on LTIR, but we'll see if he sits out the regular season and magically gets cleared for Game 1 of the playoffs.

Very good team, They'll be a tough out. Not sure any team that isn't the Rags can take them down. The West will be no match for them.

Just a very strong team with a very good goalie in Cam Talbot in nets. @Bleedred is not a believer but Cam will prove him wrong this Spring. He came through the Rags system and they have an outstanding record in developing goalies.

Avs lineup is not going to get any better than it is now unless a prospect breaks out. Now is the time to go for it. They will lose one or more of Kadri Nuke Burokovsky Keumper , so may as well go big while you have the best roster you are likely going to ever have for the next few years.
If we were in that position , I would want Fitz to go all in. Its about winning the Cup , not winning " Best regular season team for the longest period of time" . You have to pay to play. No , I wouldnt mortgage the entire future on a rental but I would part with more assets than normal if your cup window is open .
I'd argue that Sakic wasted the past two seasons trying to hoard draft assets that still haven't made an impact and maybe they do or don't. You only get so many kicks at the can with the cap. I agree he needs to maximize this season.

Damn, this sucks. I don't care about Jost, but this foils my plan to load up our roster with Nicos and Jespers.
