Thanks to FroshaugFan2 for posting Patterson's tweet in the injury thread. - Rodin not 100%

This seems to confirm one of the explanations for the weird handling of Rodin. Sounds like they are trying to ease him in to the lineup. Testing the knee in game action and then giving it a few days rest to see how it responds.

What's baffling to me is that Linden and Benning brought two guys over from Europe this of-season, Rodin and Larsen...and gave one guy all the chance in the world to succeed, and the other?...not so much.

Larsen was basically gifted a position on the team, even though he got ouplayed by Stecher in training camp....given first-unit pp time and a place in the top-six....even as it became apparent he couldn't cut it as an NHL d-man, Willie just kept playing him.

Surely if you can roll the dice with a guy like Larsen on the back-end where you're far more vulnerable, you can find a place for Rodin up-front?...seriously, how much damage can a winger really do anyway even if he's terrible defensively?

But I guess when you've got guys like Chaput, Skille and Megna 'lighting it up', what do you need the Swedish Elite League's MVP for anyway.:sarcasm:

So when Larsen returns from his concussion, if the Canucks try to rotate him into the lineup and play him in sheltered/limited minutes, will you be complaining that they aren't giving him a chance because they are being cautious?

Rodin is on this roster. He is an NHLer. He is just entering the pool from the shallow end.

Good post.
How they are treating Rodin is utter crap. Sitting on the bench ready to play and not given a single shift had to embarrass and demoralize Rodin. Watching Megna and Chabut do nothing ?

This guy was a star in the SEL and he isn't good enough to even play on the Canucks pathetic power play ? Gimme a break. Pitiful coaching Willie. Just pitiful !

So if they finally give him a chance, his confidence will be shot. This is such ********.:rant::rant:

the cup half full version of Rodin's situation is that at least he's not raising his value for the expansion draft. If he had come in and been a 20/30 guy, he would have been picked up by Las Vegas for sure.

give him time, he just come back from injury and he is probaly still injured.

So why did they rush him back with the Utica 3 game conditioning stint and the return to Vancouver supposedly ready to go?

The conditioning stint should have begun when the leg was absolutely ready to go. Now, it's a game in. Too hurt to play the next couple. Then a game, but a bump and out for who knows how many more. This guy wasn't ready and the way they are handling this he never will be.

The medical staff there acts as if their job is determined by keeping guys in the lineup, not actually determining the exact extent of an injury and the best ways of treating it so the player is totally healed so he can play again without further problems. Too much of this kind of crap with too many players.

IIRC the long-time head trainer (name escapes me) was gone with Henning and Gilman in the pogrom of the last few competent people in the company last season.

Yes, Mike Bernstein was let go by the Morons in charge for what reason nobody can even guess.

The way injuries have been handled this season has been less than bush league.

He's a free agent at year's end.

Oh, I think we're seeing the reason this year. Sounds pretty old school to encourage players to play through the pain doesn't it?

Knee injuries can be career threatening. Some guys never fully recover. I'm not a doctor, but nothing simulates playing in games. Rodin could skate, feel strong and be pain free. Then engage in full contact practice and feel strong and be pain free. He gets sent down for conditioning because teams do that with players who aren't established NHL players after a long layoff. Conditioning stints are meant to get a player into game shape (that means both fitness and timing). And as we have learned, Willie doesn't really want to play him.

It's up to Rodin to be honest with the medical team as well. Structurally there can be nothing wrong. And when Rodin tells the medical team that he is pain free and just needs to get his conditioning up, there's not much the medical team can do. Obviously, Rodin wants to push things and see where his knee is at.

Have to agree...coming up on almost a year since Rodin had a knee tendon partially severed in a bizarre practice injury.....could well be career-threatening....which would be a shame for the young man....but a reminder that you can't really take anything for granted in pro hockey.....one serious injury and it could be all over....that why you worry that Laine....only 18 and already a concussion history.

He was fully healed or likely fully heal because it makes no sense for him to go to Utica for 3 games, play 1 game (and didn't really seem to hurt himself nor anyone say he did) then miss a few games... play cause Burrows can't go and repeat that for a bit.

He did seem like he hurt himself Friday... that's probably not related to before Friday in/out tho. Its more like WD doesn't want to mess with his line-up because he finally got a winning streak going. That Megna has some dirt on WD because i still can't explain why he played with the Sedins so long (nor still in the line-up, would make more sense to play Boucher and see what we have or Rodin if he's healthy).

Blessing in disguise hopefully. If he had performed, we would have to protect him.. maybe flying under the radar will deter Vegas from picking him.

And if VGK picked him, he's on a 1-year deal.. so hopefully he rewards us back with the patience and loyalty that the Canucks had shown him?

I really want to see him play for us.

He's a UFA at the end of the season

not sure anyone will sign him for the nhl next season unless he shows by the end of this season he is healed. maybe a two way contract.

Barring some sort of renaissance in the last half of the season, he'll be a plane to Sweden in the off-season....I doubt he'd have any interest in re-signing to play with the Canucks or this coach.

Might even be on the same flight as Philip Larsen....but at least Rodin was basically a 'free asset'....Larsen on the other hand is going to cost either a fourth or fifth rounder to the Oilers....two Jimbo signings that were an attempt to flesh out the Canucks' mid-20's player pool....just didn't work out.
