I think I have a different take than most here.

In this back to back, I think it was a good move to start the worse goalie in the game we were more likely to lose. It was almost a sacrificial game.

The other thing is, I think we're trying *TOO* hard... in the wrong way. Everyone's thinking they've got to do more, so they're all chasing the puck carrier. There were way, way, WAY too many times we had 2, even 3 guys on the puck carrier, springing the off-wings. Complete lack of discipline. I understand being supportive, but not at the expense of covering your assignment.

i like what youre saying….

"doing more" sometimes get you out of position.

its a trickle down effect too…feel the need to cover for someone…leave yourself in a bad place.

got to all be on the same page

Meh. If he continues to literally give away goals (like the 1st one tonight) in addition his usual 3 goal quota, I won't blame people for booing. Fans have been pretty patient.

1st goal was pathetic.
2nd wasn't good either.
4th was leaky and he looked slow, similar to the 2nd.

That doesn't excuse the players in front of him from folding like a cheap tent. If this team is that weak mentally, then we have bigger issues.
He has us behind in the first few minutes of each of his last 3 starts. Nobody is even asking to stand on his head just give the team a chance. I am actually baffled by anyone still actually trying to defend this or shift blame.

Our fans boo...they always have.

They boo the team, they generally don't boo individual players but Cory's going to turn into an exception if they dare play him at home while he's still leaking goals and losses away. The only individual player I actually remember getting booed (if briefly) was the $100 million KHL star during the MacLean disaster.

On the bright side tonight, it’s Neanderthal of me, but I liked Greene’s check on Stamkos that sent him to the locker room, on the faceoff right after the scrum in the second period where Coleman and Zajac got into a shoving match with half of their club. They’d been embarrassing us, pouring it on and that stopped it. It was a good kick in the ass on the character side for our club.

I liked that we didn’t quit. They were on cruise control in the 3d but we played with a lot of jump.

Zacha, Bratt and Marjo have some nice chemistry going. Bratt got that slap shot off fast. Nice release.

So I liked the way we ended it, swarming their net, even though it was the equivalent of basketball “garbage time.” And actually I wouldn’t be surprised if it spilled over into a strong first period at Sunrise tomorrow night.

I don’t know why I get so upset at loses like this.
The devils just don’t have the firepower to compete with a roster like Tampa.
All I care about is the team trying their butt off and play with passion.
If you look at the team on paper... there is no way anyone would say we would of made the playoffs last year. Same goes for this year now. Hall is not in beast mode and reality is setting in .
Who in the NHL has a weaker top 6 and overall D pairings?
We have one true 1st line player in Hall , an up and coming 1c and....that’s it. Bratt has looked good but other than that we have crap and nothing in the pipeline either.
Hopefully Shero can weave some magic and use cap space to an advantage but so far no one was worth spending $ on as an UFA or an expensive contract that has fallen out of favour with their team? Like Tarasenko (a person can dream) or William Nylander

Kinkaid gave up an early goal like 6-7 straight games last year and the team battled back. So why when Cory gives one up do they give up? Do they not like him?

My issue is more is more with your "It's all Cory" logic. Here's an idea, if you know your goaltender is struggling, play better for him. Don't make terrible turnovers directly after giving up a goal (like they did Cory's last start). Don't leave Brayden Point wide f***ing open in the slot, or chase players across the ice, leaving Johnson wide open, or tie up a f***ing stick in front of your own goal. These are fundamental issues that they struggle with (in front of both goalies). Kinkaid has been better at covering up for those mistakes, but it's no excuse for continuing to play that way.

Dano continues to be blunt as hell in this post-game show.

I think he's just a big-time fan. Unrelenting optimism during the game; back down to earth and pissed off post-game.

Only the hard core fans stick around for the post game and that's when he can call it like he sees it after the fair weather fans tune out. I'm sure if he called it like Chico does on the radio broadcast most of us would appreciate it but MSG would get a bunch of flak from the casual fans wanting less gloom and doom and more sugar coating.

Then the sentence should've been :

"We have one true 1st line player in Hall, an up and coming 1c and, if Hynes would remove his head from his ass, Bratt(if he bothered to re-form that 1st line that was so successful early last season after MarJo went down).

What is happening is everyone involved knows the record and they know they have no chance when Cory is in net. There is zero confidence in Cory from the team...they want to perform for him but he doesn't help himself. And as soon as he let's that bad one in, everyone in the universe knows it is over.

This is not a week or a string of bad games this is a long time now...this was going on when the team was playing well last year also and there is always some kind of excuse for him.

There is no way possible that it is not in the back of the players minds that we have to win despite Cory. That's not a healthy situation and yes it is all on him

"Just a couple of more points and we are in the thick of it." doesnt look like we are getting any of them points other teams have any time soon. Thank god i fast forwarded straight to 3rd, not too bad to just watch for the hockey. And hey, i won with my wager against the Devils. Easy money when Schneider's in net (well dunno if there is a goalie in the league that could steal a game for us against tampa).

I just don't know what Shero's plan for the D is. It seems he wants a bunch of 5'11'' skaters.

Cory's strength always was his positioning. He lets the puck hit him, keeps it close, and covers up. This works well if the D can: A) stop the cross ice passes and B) box guys out to prevent any jamming before he gets a handle on the puck. His weakness is his lack of athleticism. he may be the slowest across the crease in the league. Maybe that's a product of superior positioning; not getting too out of control.

Our D is small. The D is not going to push anyone out of the way. But what's worse is our D seems to have forgotten stick positioning. Greene looks like a shell of his former self and I think a big part of why the D looks decrepit at times.

I will never understand why Nasreddine has the D chase forwards to the blue line. This creates the mismatches down low that teams thrive on.

I wonder if Cory's career could be salvaged on another team. I wonder what Schneider would look like on the Blues.

Furthermore, we bemoan the lack of D and the goaltending situation on the team, but we are 2nd to last in the EC in goals for. Guys like Noesen, Hall, Wood, and MarJo need to be better. I root for Seney and Anderson but they're not doing enough on offense. Bring Q back up here.

I think problem numero uno is Hynes.

Cory at this point is barely a problem in the sense he's the backup.

The last time the devils were playing that bad was when the other bald guy behind the bench

it is true, not a healthy situation

when a team has someone behind them that has shown a string of bad play it will get into the minds of the skaters just demoralizing any positivity that might made in a pre game talk

then the difficult uphill battle to get back in the game score wise and in the head once down early into the game

I don't think they'll lose to the Panthers...heaven forbid. They're even a bigger mess than us with Trocheck and Luongo out - but next weekend's going to be a neverending tooth extraction. They might lose all three by multiple goals.

If we lose tomorrow we're screwed for the season as we have a brutal 2 week stretch after that (Caps, Jets, Tampa again, followed by a Cali road trip, and then Vegas, Preds, and Leafs). I'd be surprised if we manage at least 8 points out of those 9 games and it's quite likely we don't even get 6 so with a loss to the garbage fire that is the Panthers we might as well start hoping for Hughes than the playoffs.
