I think the rare thing about Svech is he still acts like the teenager he is. On the ice he is a Hockey Player, off the ice he is a fun loving 19 year old and that really isn't a bad thing. He takes that enthusiasm with him on the ice. He isn't trying to live up to "expectations" of others but just his own expectations and that of his teammates. Not taking anything away from any other star in this league, But Svech, Aho and Teravaine all have that youthful exuberance that you rarely see in sports today.

Daigle was NEVER considered to be in the Lindros/Crosby/McDavid tier. Neither was Svechnikov(since this thread is about him). He looks very strong and good this year, though. Some similarities to Mackinnon, but Mack was a bit better when he came into the league.

Daigle was considered in that tier. Perhaps he was the worst of the four pre draft but the same tier regardless

Since age 15 the expectation was he is going to be a 100pts player once in the NHL. But what do we Russians know about our prospects?

Yeah, what do you Russians know about your prospects:

Atas2000 - April 10, 2016 from the Andrei Svechnikov Thread: "Svechnikov is quite an intriguing talnt, but it's too early to predict him to become comparable to any player already in the NHL. He's 16."

And after he goes to the CHL:

I do not know any Svechnikov anymore. I do not expect any Svechnikov to be a superstaranymore. I do not think they can prove me wrong.

There were so many before him with exacty that predicate to them. And then they went to NA and became 3rd liners on a good day. I see that fact and have a hard time predicting A.Svechnikov to be any different.

This is a very weak draft class. We don't have goalies to even talk about top 80. No defencemen worth talking about as evidenced by the WJC. Svechnikov is regressing just like his brother. The only difference is he is falling down to Earth from higher expectations. The NA runaways are starting to regress even faster now it seems. Ok, Khovanov gets the benefit of a doubt because ofvthe illness and all. Otherwise just a wasted crop.

He was considered a McDavid caliber prospect. Period.

You tell me in which category McDavid belongs.

I also have not said he was expected to be a 90pts player right away or as a teenager, just that he was expected to be a 100pts player in in his career(like McDavid). Breaking out in his second season as a 19y.o. is very much what I expected from him. He is that kind of good. And he was as a 15-16y.o. in Kazan. Way ahead of his older brother. A rare talent. That is also probably why I am that demanding when it comes to expectations with him.

Cmon no he wasn't.

Just because you're Russian, doesn't really mean anything. It doesn't mean you have a eye for talent or can properly evaluate a player - and obviously, your past posts show that, since you were quite clearly counting Svech down and out.

I don't care if people are sire of knowing something. I don't care about the crowd. The crowd can be perfectly wrong. You don't need to listen to the voice of reason.

I can’t imagine what it’s like to be so brilliant and then having to deal with shallow thinkers’ terrible takes, such as “And then they went to NA and became 3rd liners on a good day. I see that fact and have a hard time predicting A.Svechnikov to be any different.”

2 more assists and the GWG in the shootout tonight. 1st Star. 31 points in 29 games if I have the math right.

He’s emerging as one of the league’s more dangerous scoring threats, not just among recent draftees.
I mean he’s ok but a guy like, say, Matt Tkachuk does more to help his team win in the playoffs.

I would still take Dalhin over him in a redraft but man Svechinkov is such an awesome 2nd pick and it's really a huge compliment to him.

A real coming out party for him this year and a star for many years going forward.
