Cant say I'm surprised. That deal looked bad from the second he signed it.

I would offer Brendan Smith for him, but the years don't line-up. Seems like they're in the same conundrum.

Nearly every poster on here knew it was a terrible contract the moment it was signed. There were reports his hands were so damaged he had to have his girlfriend/wife open jars for him etc.

He had already slowed down a bit too by the end of his year in Washington. Signing a guy who's skillsets do not reflect the new NHL and will significant injury concerns to a big contract is something most of this site could have avoided doing, yet GM's do it all the time.

not that he is only slow,
but he can't make passes. He will strictly passes via the board, 9 times out of 10, this ain't a joke he is f***ing bad.

He was toast when the leafs picked on him in the playoffs

I think he clears waivers and gets traded for another seemingly bad contract. It can't be Edmonton unless Habs fans are cool with seeing Lucic in a Habs jersey.

That’s not happening. Habs aren’t taking more years and higher cap hit. We have the cap to ride out the contract right now. It’s better for us that he plays in the AHL (saving ~1.1M on the cap) than just practicing with the team full time.

He is set to lose about 3.2 million of that with the buyout next summer.

Losing 3.2 million =/= Losing 20 million.
This guy is toast. No other team in the league is going to give him anything more than league minimums if they need a depth defender with some leadership qualities.

Long gone are his days of making almost 5 million a year (pre tax) if he signs a new contract.

Call me crazy, but he definitely said could. Ah okay, he clarified. Nevermind!

Radulov and Markov were asking for too much term and money that summer according to Bergevin own words.

And then said Alzner would be good for a long time since Markov (one of the greatest Habs D-man) & Chara (future HOFer) were still playing great in their late 30's.

Way to go MB comparing these two with Karl fuc**** Alzner.

However, props to him to waive him this early and recognizing his mistake.

Agree, but you can't buyout during the season, this is just waivers.
