hope these greedy players take this offer, NHL will not make a better proposal for months, if they ever will imo.

Good offer from the Owners. Hopefully the PA counters with a staggered implementation (i.e. going from 57-55-53-50).

i'm predicting the PA will reject the offer. nothing they have done so far has made me believe that they are willing to use logic and reason instead of emotion in these negotiations

I highly doubt they will accept the offer as is, but hopefully it at least prompts a reasonable counter from them.

Thanks for the info. Didn't think the NHL would put their "end-goal" offer on the table this early into the lockout. Balls in NHLPA's court, indeed.

I on the other end think it makes perfect sense, and the NHL's timing is perfect, since the NHL offer (maybe with a few changes here and there) is now the only way the entire season can be saved!

Everyone loses if this doesn't spark a final deal.

I fully expect the pa to reject and counter.

Pray this leads to meaningful negotiations.

The pa has all the pressure

There's the problem. Is it 50/50 for the first year and reductions after that? That is something the PA will not agree to.

50/50 for the duration of the CBA (Please make it a 10 year deal!) would be better and put the PA in a more difficult spot.

Gary Bettman: "50/50 across the board."

I assume that is throughout the term.

BTW, I am not seeing any tweets on it being 6 years of term.

I'm betting that the NHLPA will reject the offer as well and say it's "insulting" or something moronic.

An interesting strategic move by the NHL, as others have noted about this is what it would come to anyway.

If the players reject this outright

Be interesting to see the NHLPA reaction.

I also think if players reject it, NHL pulls the "this will be last time players will see a number 50 and above-next offer will be 49 or below" card.

Key move by #NHL ... League needed to take chance to get process moving. 50/50 with salaries preserved puts ball in players court. #NHLPA

I don't think Fehr can reject this right off the bat.
He'll say we're gonna take a look at it.

Bettman says offer contingent on having 82-game season which would begin Nov 2. Says league offered 50/50 share of HRR

2nd Nov start seems a while off. Why not Next Saturday or mid-week?

If the proposal indeed protests player salaries for this year.. The pa will lose most of its support in the public if they reject.

Give the NHL credit. PA will not take this, but it should really start intense negotiations. If the PA does not come back with a legit proposal with the same framework, I have no idea how people could support their side.

25 years.

TWENTY. FIVE.

If the PA rejects this I will be beyond livid.

Because you need to:

- Have both sides review and approve the deal, which would take a few days.

- Allow time for teams to adjust to new CBA and make plans based on what is in it.

- Come up with some of training camp. Has to be AT LEAST 1 week long.

Frankly, starting on November 2nd would be cutting it close.

No chance they accept this, and Gary knows it.

Still a massive pay cut in year 1 which is what the NHLPA's main concern.
