While he may never be a Top 6 player, he’s certainly going to be an NHL player. Worse case, he spends the next two years concentrating on being a productive bottom six player, and he’ll play 5-10 years in the league.

He’s as well trained in a hockey sense, than any prospect in recent memory. So that part of the game is in his DNA as a player. It’s also likely why he doesn’t get “any better” from a Top 6 skill standpoint, compared to other players who now have the same type of training he had growing up.

But he will be an NHL player unless injuries take a toll on him.

Well said.

Alex Turcotte if he can stay healthy will be a nice piece that a team throws on its 3rd or 4th line who can provide some sandpaper to a lineup and isn’t a total black hole offensively.

He was very poorly evaluated by the scouting community as far as offensive potential and unrealistic expectations were placed on him based on that. That doesn’t mean he’s a complete loss or should be traded now. I’ve said for years Andrew Copp or Cogliano type player is his ceiling, and I think he can still get there, but the injuries have slowed him down. The Kings probably could have gotten a late 1st at the 2021 draft, and that was probably the last time a realistic trade could have gone down that made sense for the Kings and another team. Now it makes no sense for what the return would be.

Yeah, that's not the worst case. The worst case is that he continues to be as injury prone as he is now, gets in a few NHL games over the next 2-3 years merely because of where he was taken in the draft, then he retires early because of said injuries, or goes overseas and plays a couple/few years in Europe, before retiring.

MTL is going after all the 2019 players (next it's Zegras)

What would be the cost of getting Turcotte in MTL

MTL have a bunch of LHD that LA could use , Matheson could be a great fit with Doughty

What would be the cost ?
That’s not fair. In the Zegras to Montreal thread, Matheson is untouchable.

He is my #1 center in NHL 21 that I still play. What is wrong with him?
He’s also not too shabby in FHM.

Bad news bargain bin shoppers.

Kings took him to Australia.

He played game 2 with the other game 1 scratches.

H was a standout player.

He is in the running for a roster spot and can be sent down waiver free for cap savings or until the roster has a spot for him.

The chance of the Kings trading him until closer to the deadline, for a slim shot, is presently close to zero

Its not even clear to me why Montreal would want Turcotte, apart from collecting all the 2019 first rounders. Injuries play a role, but he hasn't really shown enough post-2019 to justify an NHL spot even on a team as bad as Montreal and the they don't need him in the AHL either.
Montreal doesn't want or need turcotte

Turcotte played really well in his first preseason game, funny enough. Will definitely get a few more looks this preseason and could surprise.

His AHL numbers have been mediocre at best, and he can't seem to stay healthy. At some point you have to forget about where he was drafted five years ago and see him for what he is, a longshot to have a NHL career of any significance.

As far as worth... a late 2nd, maybe, if even that?
late 2nd still has value. This dude doesn't have that value. late 4th or early 5th. He hasn't done anything of note in the NHL or AHL to get a decent pick.

I still think he can be a great #3C who can fill in as #2 if there are injuries. Issues are 1) he himself is usually the injured one 2) With Kopitar, PLD and Danault not sure if he will get the opportunity in LA.

In the right package where LA gets a legit goalie and space to play said goalie, LA would have to consider.

Possible but he will have to stay healthy for awhile before he has any trade value.

Is this a make or break year for Turcotte?

Have to wonder how much more time LAK will give him.

Really its next year when he is no longer protected from waivers but he needs to show he can stay healthy.

The Kings will then need to decide if they move him to wing or if he is going to start at 4c if the Kings trade or don't extend Lizotte.

also JAD...likely waiver fodder if Turcotte asserts himself.

JAd does not have the pedigree of Alex T.

I like him as a guy in Ontario that gets called up if forwards are injured.

One reason is I don't think he will get taken on waivers because he signed for minimum with the Kings and not a little more anywhere else.

However he didn't look great in game 2 of Global

Maybe a 2nd round pick and a late one at that.

Kings traded for a former top 10 pick/prospect in Anderson at about the same age

Why would this help him to not get claimed? Cheaper is better for everyone

Inconsequential if he's claimed because that team seemingly will be eyeing a roster spot for him
Which he is unlikely to take for long & will probably end up in the AHL at some point. Maybe there's a team that wants a small 4C, PP specialist?

Maybe a 2C on Toronto when WN can't hold it down. Might be a good fit there.

The Leafs would never do it but Turcotte for Joseph Woll, add him to our goalie carousel.

Turcotte making this team as a 4C so LA can trade Lizotte to make a little more cap room!
