Backstrom gets him the puck and does the center drive to the net thing. As Backstrom turns his head to see where Ov went with the puck, Ovechkin shoots the puck between Backstrom's legs and top shelf for a goal. Brilliant
Yeah, I think we see defensemen just going for a change after the puck is dropped all the timeBecause it only takes a few seconds to get the defenseman you want out against the opposing star forward and because Bourque, Lidstrom, and Leetch never played 27 minutes a night?
It's probably the best game they've played in the last 20, if not all year long. Honestly the line hasn't been great so far this season which is crazy based on the Capitals result, once it gets humming so will the PP and boom. The Caps top line is going off tonight. He might still add.

Young Wayne playing awesome hockey, a must watch for everyone who thinks he was just IQ and nothing else. It's a bit hard to figure out all defensemen who were on the ice when Gretzky scored, but recognizable ones are:
Jimmy Watson
Blake Wesley?
Thomas Eriksson (was this his only NHL game that season?)
Jack McIlhargey
Terry Murray
Some decent players, but kinda not prime Lidstrom or Leetch material, you know. Look at how funny Peeters looks with his small equipment and obsolete technique. The guy won the Vezina next year, with .903 sv%.
I'm not taking anything from Gretzky. He had those 50+ point leads on everyone else for reasons. But this above is how 50 goal seasons turned into 80 goal seasons. Claiming that Gretzky played against stronger defense than today's players is laughable.
The only time Selanne is late is when he gets a speeding ticket.
Had Selanne entered the league at 18, he might have ended up with more career goals (probably would have), but he also might have burned out wayyyy earlier, so who the hell knows. He certainly wouldn't have scored 76 goals as a rookie, which continues to stand as one of the most "unbreakable" records in the history league. Selanne's rookie season is a big part of what makes him such a legend... how many all time greats set career highs in goals and points as rookies, then never matched those totals again, but were not considered a bust in the slightest? Maybe no one.
The biggest "what if" with Selanne isn't what if he started earlier, but rather, what if he didn't sever his achilles tendon in his second season...
Still, it's mind blowing to think Ovechkin is going to be blowing by Selanne's career goal total of 684 in just a few more games, with seemingly LOTS of gas left in the tank, while Selanne at 684 goals was pretty much running on empty. Ovechkin's greatness cannot be underscored in the slightest...
Seems like he'll barely hit 700 this season the way he's going.

There's making defensemen look like pylons and defensemen actually being career pylons which were far more abundant in Gretzky's era.I can get you the videos where Ovechkin, Kane, and McDavid make today's defensemen look like pylons and Luongo, Price, and Bobrovsky like idiots. Pavel Datsyuk was great at that. This doesn't mean anything. Gretzky just did it more often than anybody... because he was, well, Gretzky.
If Mario and Ovy played in the same era, we'd barely talk about ovy.
G.O.A.TOvechkin has tied Selanne for 11th all-time (684).
They see me Roaring back, they hating.Whenever Ovi is having a slump someone just needs to start a hf thread asking if hes having a down season so he surges to #1 lol
