Is it? The difference between a good (44%) shooter and a bad one (24%) over 12 attempts is 2.5 goals... and then you have at least 5 other shooters and 2 goalies to factor in.

You'll forgive me for rounding up but 3 goals in 3 different SO is huge, and that's below average like you said.

An optimist would think of 7 goals per 12 attempts as a possibility for a specialist.

Post # 804, we should be able to start a new Gally thread for tomorrow game again Leafs :)

With a new thread name, why not "Gally with the Habs #edition"

He showed flashes of offensive awareness later in the scrimmage, but what worries me is that he seemed to get pushed off the puck a little too easily. This happens with most 18 year olds in the NHL, but it might be best to slate another big player with gally and pleks. An idea would be:

Patches DD Cole
Gally Pleks Bourque (looked good yesterday)
Moen Eller Gio

Like that Bourque does most of the work along the boards, giving gally the space to make his offensive plays (like Cole did for Patches)

I thought he had a decent game. His vision is amazing, his passes are smooth and I think we should give him a shot. He can learn a lot in MTL, not so sure he's got that much experience to gain in the OHL vs the NHL.

The kid can keep up and he's only going to get better. The one thing that bothers me is that he tends to cheat waiting on the enemy blue line. Maybe it's just me, but i thought he looked like he was playing center when he was with Eller tonight, he was all over the place.

You can tell he has great skill, he had 2-3 one touch passes that were simply amazing and right on the stick, a couple of times facilitated an easy breakout from our zone with those types of passes.

His skating is ... different, but he has a long stride and is not "slow" as some people say it, his acceleration can use some work but he is not slow, just has a different stride IMO

I agree with your assessment of him getting pushed off the puck easily at this point, specially in 1-1 battles, but that will come with strength training at NHL level and experience.

I don't think he wanted to go too hard physically as this was an intra-team scrim... Also saw him get easily tossed aside against Tinordi, but then again, that was Tinordi..

Gally made some nice one touch passed, and crisp plays in the offensive zone, very composed. He did look like he tired quickly on shifts though, but he made quick changes and didn't stay out longer than he had to.

44% is still enough to help you win a lot of SO in one season.
Replacing a 25% shooter, with a 50% shooter rates to add ONE
shoot-out win over a 48 game schedule. The amount you'd have to
improve Gally's results before their worth TWO wins is large. He would
have to be the best, and probably by a lot.
People are misled by short sample sizes.
And shoot-outs happen in about 16.5% of NHL games. Over a 48
game schedule, this results in an average of about 8. Certainly not
10-12.

Nope, Therrien said they wanted to see more of him on the wing (LW), because that's where they have a need right now

I haven't watched too many Sarnia Sting games, but I wonder if he had the same tendencies to cut to the center of the ice while playing LW like he showed yesterday. He was playing like a center and pinched on the blue line a little too much for my liking.

By all accounts he does that a lot, on many of his goals or assists he's in the middle of the ice and his Sarnia linemates adapt.

8 SO with that stat we have last years mean Habs would be 1-7 this years = 1pts total for SO
8 SO with Gally and another good SO player could bring the Habs to a 4-4 record = 4 pts for SO

which means 3 more points on a 48 game schedule, which is huge to me. Could be the difference between finishing 7 or 11...Playoff or not

edit: Hooooo and BTW, we are just talking about SO, I am sure Gally can help Habs in many others different ways

Galchenyuk WAS, IS and WILL BE a centerman. He's a centerman who the Habs don't want to rush 'cause the defensive assignments are tougher to handle.

If so.....put him back in Sarnia. And give a chance to Gallagher. My centerman in Montreal would be: DD-Pleks-Eller-Galchenyuk. Tough to play as a centerman? Play him in limited minutes on a 4th line.

It's not worth keeping him in the NHL for limited minutes. He can transition back to center next year or later, I don't see a big deal there.

I would like to see more scrimage shoot out goals from Galchenyuk against one of the worst shoot out goalies in the NHL. I would also like to note that that Galchenyuk seems to being doing very well in the only center position he has played... The shoot outs!

Yes I was talking only about the shoot-out. And basing some of you 3 points
on some other exceptional shooter says nothing about Gally. After all this other
shooter might be available, even if Gally is sent back to Sarnia.
And if you think habs are likely to go 1-7 in shootouts in any circumstances,
I'd love to do some betting with you. I'm not saying it can't happen. But it sure would be fun to bet against.

Completely disagree with this. Time and time again you see young centerman start on the wing and end up in the middle. it's going to happen to Seguin eventually like it happened to Giroux. Brayden Schenn is another one.

If we didn't have so many proven centers in their respected positions (DD and Pleks in top 6, Eller on 3rd line), then you'd probably see Gally as a C... but to inhibit his development as an offensive NHL player just because those positions are filled up would be unwise imo.

If he's ready to produce at the NHL level now... then he should be given the opportunity to.

1) he's too dominant for the O
2) playing gallagher on that line is a bad idea with pleks and gio. nobody to win puck battles. nobody. at least galchenyuk is 6'1 200
3)we finally have a true crash and bang line and a 3rd line that avg's 6'2.

I say this 'cause in the end, I don't see him producing as a winger. And if he doesn't produce and let say Bourque has a tremendous start....guess what will happen? Gally is going in Sarnia. So what do you want? A try on the wing to get back in Juniors? Or an understanding of him as a centerman with a lot more time to prove himself, with no pressure and learning the position even if the wingers aren't exactly star players. But playing with Armstrong and Prust would be better than playing with Mr. Nobody and Mr. Who? in Sarnia.

Are you saying Galchenyuk is more likely, at this point in his career, to win a puck battle than Plekanec or Gionta? I disagree.

In the end, if only the 1st line works, you lose Cole on the first line who'll end up on the Pleks line. So you might have Gallagher on the DD and MaxPac line and Bourque with Pleks and Cole. Or have Bourque with DD and Gallagher with Pleks.

I hope it works well for Galchenyuk. He might surprise. But the guy is clearly a centerman. And what he did in juniors meaning that playing as a centerman while not being the centerman, it won't cut it in the NHL. And Therrien won't accept that. So you'd blow up the magic that makes Galchenyuk look so good. 'Cause even if it's not that big of a deal this year....what happens next year? Is DD and Pleks still here? Will we move Eller?

What I hate more than anything (looking back at Patches as a recent example) is when a top 6 offensive player is being played in situations where he won't be in the future. Either he's ready for the top 6 now (or an offensive 3rd line)... or he gets sent down to play in the top 6 in junior.

He's been playing wing in Junior and has dominated at that position. He's done the same at center. Clearly... where he plays on the line doesn't matter. He just needs to play with the right kind of players.

I don't wanna see Gally dumping and chasing or playing against the Shawn Thontons
